Hi, a little bit off topic, but all who are interested in the Turkish navy before and in WW 1 I can recommend these two books: - The Ottoman Steam Navy 1828-1928 by Bernd Langensiepen and Ahmet G?lery?z, Convay Press 1995, 201 pages with photos - Halbmond und Kaiseradler Breslau und Goeben am Bosporus 1914-1918 by Langensiepen - Nottelmann - Kr?smann, Mittler & Sohn 1999, 271 pages with photos One of the latter authors, Jochen Kr?smann was a colleague of me, when we together attended the "Beamtenschule" in the German State of Nordrhein-Westfalen back in 1993

The Waldeck bar is really interesting. But as Rick said, nothing with a extra crown from there. Only the first class comes with a crown, but it was part of the decoration itself and no higher class. By the way - thenever you think of selling this piece, let me know. I`ve got a whole family of Waldeck`s here and they are always waiting for new members greetings eitze

I?ve got a small book with the history of the III. Seebataillon, which is called "Die K?mpfe des III. Seebataillons w?hrend der Wirren 1900/01". There is a supplement with the names of all soldiers and officers of the unit and the decorations they got for China. These Russian awards were made: - 2 George Crosses (for the Peking defenders) - 34 golden military merit medals (also Peking) - 2 golden and 2 silver military merit medals (for Tientsien) Perhaps this might be of interest for you! greetings eitze

3 German Soldiers killed in Afghanistan
eitze replied to eitze's topic in Modern Campaigns and Conflicts
That is the next sad news - the answer to all three questions is: NOTHING We have no decoration for wounded or for bravery. They only got the campaign medal with clasp and that`s it! The only Army decoration is the Honour Cross (Gold-Silver-Bronze) and the minor Honour Medal. But these are general purpose decorations, awarded here in Germany and abroad for all and nothing. On 07.07.2003 a suicide bomber crashed into a German Army bus on its way to Kabul airport. Casualties were 4 dead and 29 wounded. I have to say it is a shame, but some of these wounded still have their files at court against the German Government for propper pay- and treatment as WiA`s !!!!!!!!!!! That`s the truth with the German Army today! greetings eitze -
3 German Soldiers killed in Afghanistan
eitze replied to eitze's topic in Modern Campaigns and Conflicts
That is right - our soldiers wanted to support the local Afghan dealers by buying technical equipment on the market, instead of flying in all the stuff from Germany and that is their way to say thank you I don`t know what we are doing there. It is time to call our soldiers back home. Let the Afghans kill each other, instead of our people greetings eitze -
I will show you the miniature of the Grand Officer`s decoration of the mentioned order. greetings eitze

Yesterday a German foot patrol was the target of a Taliban suicide bomber in the northern Afghanistan town of Kundus. http://www.dw-world.de/dw/article/0,,25433...isch-335-rdf-mp Three German soldiers were killed and five (not 3 as told in the link) wounded, two of them seriously. The wounded are on their way to Germany with an Airbus MEDEVAC plane of the Luftwaffe. Beside the Germans there were also 6 Afghans killed and 12 wounded. It seems this will be the end of the service in the "quiet" northern province. There is NO peaceful place in Afghanistan anymore greetings eitze

Dear Gentlemen. as a good old "Preu?ischer Beamte" I keep all my invoices I put numbered stickers on all medals and ribbons, which also marked the avers of the decoration. It must have been a good instruction - nothing went wrong By the way - all medals were cleaned and laquered, not only mounted. So I think it was a fair price. But beware, this invoice is 16 years old. It could be muuuch more today. greetings eitze

Hello, I wanna show you the medal group to Const/Sgt. J.M. Masoli B.S.A.P.. The medals were bought in a local shop in Harare on my trip 15 years ago. After returning to Germany I sent them to Spink & Son for court mounting. The mounting was much more expensive than the whole medal group , but the result is a good one! The Group: - Zimbabwe Independence Medal (No. 01575) - Zimbabwe 10 year Service Medal (19183 SGT J.M. Masoli) - Rhodesia GSM (19183 CONST Masoli)
