    1. Enough for tonight, have to go to bed. As the rules state, post your ooh's and Ah's, but for nice indepth discussions, we can pull the relevant toys into the relevant forums for discussion and chat. Gnight all best Chris
    2. Another English speaking South African, this maybe the first wounded South African of the war, blinded in the first skirmish with the Germans.
    3. Okay, not really a Boer.. a South African of Australian origin ;-) Has a siege of mafeking bar on the QSA, then earned a DSO in South West Africa, and LATER an MC in East Africa.
    4. This was for a Boer to young to serve in the war, but in 1902 he was one of the 25-30 Boers who volunteered to fight in Somalia, he must have been 15 or 16. He then fought in German South West Africa then German East Africa (Invalided out with malaria)
    5. This Guy was on Louis Botha's Staff in the Boer war, was with Southern Force in South West Africa
    6. This is to a Boer scout who later commanded a Rget against the Germans n South West Africa...
    7. Does anyone have the slightest clue why the Spanish Peace in Morocco medal has a metal star of david pinned to the ribbon ? Like on the middle of this page. Most of them have it. http://www.emering.com/medals/french/morocco.html
    8. Nice, any idea of how many of these were awarded? Is this one named or not? Best Chris
    9. Hi, here you go. This is somewhere out of the wives family, I got a mint WW1 era produced cross with it as well. A big medal bar was there as well, but got lost along the way (man, I would have loved that). This is like this, right from the maker. only markings are DRGM 653146. The back fittings are a tad bigger than Meybauer ones and more "machine made" ala WW2 as opposed to the more "artisan" made WW1 fittings of the same style. Best chris
    10. Hi Dave, I have all his EK docs added in, have been hesitating with the books as it will contain a good % of "doubles" where the date is factored in because of the doc already being couinted. best Chris
    11. I have the casauly lists, they are a terrible muddle. give me the name, unit and whenhe was there and I will see what I can do. best Chris
    12. Na, just the same DRGM that the WW1 made versions have. I used to have a WW1 made one, same DRGM patent and meybauer coat of arms.
    13. Hi, it is a larger LDO type of cross (made in WW2 period, WW2 size) but for a 14-18 piece.. and a later version of the screwback we sometimes see on WW1 era meybauers.
    14. Hi, Do you have any info on german medics in the Boer war? I may have a few books somewhere where they are described. best Chris
    15. So.... how did you get it !!!!!!!!
    16. You bastard Joe... thats right!
    17. Erik... you are not supposed to have those. they should be mine. Rectify the problem please. ;-) best Chris
    18. This is to "Guide HJ van Aswegen F.I.D." He must have been a "Hendsopper" (Handsupper) or "Joiner" during the british advance into the Orange Free State. During the still (more or less) conventional stage of the Boer war the british gained the upper hand and advanced through the Free State into the transvaal, a number of Boers thought there was no point in continuing the fight and became "hendsoppers", a number went a step further and became "Joiners"... like old HJ. After the war there was a lot of animosity between those who had stayed the course and those who had joined the enemy, in some regions the "Joiners" were excluded from local churches and had to build their own.
    19. Front looks kinda british in style...
    20. Well, unknown by me.... "Spain and Africa" I think its called...
    21. We know this screwback from WW1 crosses... I thought this was intresting... the same system in a WW2 style WW1 cross...
    22. Still ongoing conflict in the Region.... To an Egyptian
