    1. http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=35483 Above is the career. This is one of those double sided personalized documents. I am of the conviction that once one of these was sent, there was no lower office that would issue a "Besitzzeugnis" (Only exception we have seen to date on this was the 15th res J?g group a week or so ago, and that was just at divisional level) as in this case it would have been irrelevant. I consider this my "Highest level" EK document.... Am not sure who signed it...
    2. Seems to have been a bit of a waste? How often do you need a man held mini gun?
    3. Some great advances since my last post, thanks to Tom, Dick and Harry. Harry has added to Harry's Africa, Tom Young gave a hand with the totally revised machine Gun section and the dick (thats me!) finally got a few hours free to do the update... http://www.kaiserscross.com/152301.html
    4. Born in 1856 so no 1870 for him.... Anecdote... But it is still far from late. It is only nine o'clock and the Duke's hospitality will not be denied. So we went to the Europ?ischer Hof, where the Duke ordered a sumptuous cham- pagne supper. There we stayed for several hours talking of the wonderful things we had seen together during the last few days, commonplace enough for him who is a soldier, but the more exciting and unforgettable to me. The witching hour of midnight had already struck when we quite suddenly caught sight of the Deputy-Governor of Metz, General von Pelkmann of the Artillery, a little man with a grey moustache, very eccentric, with very decided views on life, on the universe, and on the whole creation generally. In his company was Baron von Tauchnitz. That the latter was " Kommandeur der Kraftfahriruppen des Armeeober kommando Falkenhausen " was not to be wondered at, for he was no less a person than the nephew of the head of the great publish- ing firm known throughout the Continent by its " Collection of British Authors, Tauchnitz Edition." This chance acquaint- ance, in itself very agreeable, had the result that I could not resist the temptation to accompany Baron Tauchnitz on the following morning to Blamont, where a fight was to take place and where a French position was to be stormed.
    5. A guess hoping for a postcard with him on is a bit of a long shot... but does anyone have any info on him? He was general d. Artillerie in 1914.... any chance he had a 1870 EK1 ? Thanks Chris
    6. I think the silver color is like the silver foil in a pack of smokes, it must have been wrapped around "The object"
    7. You rarely see a wartime shot of the MG08 with a tripod.....
    8. The unit is a major pain in the ass though..... Until the end of 1915 it seems to have stayed with the 43rd reserve division on the greek border, but then have been split away as the division went west at the beginning of 1916.... it then appears in 1918 in the 195th ID (apparently as part of the 14 J?ger regiment) I dont know what its parent regiment was from 1916-1918. Best Chris
    9. Nice enough to provide wound badge docs with date and place of wound (very uncommon!)
    10. For a man from the 15th Reserve J?ger battalion A unit that actually DID replace the field docs with nice ones.... His EK2
    11. The almost unreadable label hols the key.... It was so well sewn up it was not there for easy access....
    12. I gave it to the neighbours cat.... will report back in a few hours......
