    1. Interesting to note above, the doc was for the 11. Bay.I.R. but altered to the 12 brigade. Brigades had little own personnel so an own award doc was not really justified. Of about 375 EK docs i have, this is the only one I have awarded at Brigade level.

He was wounded in march 1915, and served in alsace, on the somme, some really heavy stuff at verdun etc. etc. at this time scribe at the brigade staff. The last couple of years he was on the staff of the 16th bavarian division, in charge of the office staff. he has a number of excellent letters of recommendation as a very good, calm, worker under high pressure, initiative etc. etc...

    2. What can you expect from a Beampte, he pocketed it all....

One of the nice things about private sellers, they keep things together, whereas a dealer would probably have tossed some of it.

he served in the bavarian 11. I.R. but at the outbreak of the war he was transfered to the staff of the 12th Brigade as a bicycle despatch rider and scribe.

They fought in the Alsace and at St mihiel, the brigade taken the camp de romaine.

Here is his prewar order to serve at the Brigade staff....

    3. with the Bulgarian commenorative medal awarded in the 30's?

I have a bunch of papers for agerman NCo who served in the Bavarian 6th and 16th divisions... never saw bulgaria in his life... and was able to apply for it against the issuing and buying fees.

Did the bulgarian govt get into the medal selling business?

      Best

    4. I assume they are, but all the Turkish officers (or most of them) seem to have had them, maybe they were sold in turkey as well? I saw way more of them than the painted ones in the museum.

I do remember a group or two with the painted ones.

Just a question of whether they bought them during or after the war.

by the way, one turkish seller insisted BB a co was a turkish firm, the others had no thoughts on the subject. I have no idea, just adding this to muddy the waters.

Have any German groups popped up out of the woodwork with painted medals?

    5. In the groups in the turkish war museum there are mostly enamle stars. A few antique dealers I spoke to called them officers stars and the painted ones, other ranks stars.
