Reminds me of when the wife took me to the Elton John concert and the guitar player had a special fan that blew his hair back during his solos :-)

How often do you see a period photo of an OR wearing an 1870 cross, as opposed to a greyhair taken years and years later ?

is that black plastic poking out between the ribbons?

Appears Detlev sold one "similar" but yet different on his sale this AM for $80 US.
Is that one of the later ones made for Vets?

These fetch little on the market.
The interest value must be more than an EK2 or something?

What would the market price be for one of these? I must admit, I have never had one.

Here is a strange one indeed...
A document made out to "Kanonier unged. Ldst. Eugen Caspar der 8.(F)/Res.Felda.Rgt.5......"
Can it be "ungediente Landsturm" ? and would the (F) refer to the type of Gun used in the Arty Batterie? Feldartillery had field guns and light field howitzers, usually there is no mention in the award doc, but here they have an "F" and I can only think that it has to do with that....

In 1996, Gouws submitted an amnesty application to the Truth And Reconciliation Commission in which he admitted involvement in a host of crimes.
Among the incidents for which he later received amnesty were:
Between 40 and 60 petrol bombings of political activists' houses in Mamelodi, Atteridgeville, Soshanguve, Oukasie , Pietersburg, Tembisa and Ekangala in 1986;
A car bombing in 1986 that claimed the life of KwaNdebele homeland Cabinet minister and ANC activist Piet Ntuli;
An arson attack on the home of Mamelodi doctor Fabian Ribiero in March 1986. No one was home at the time. Ribiero and his wife Florence were subsequently assassinated by a Security Branch death squad;
The deaths of at least nine young Umkhonto weSizwe recruits who were shot to death before their bodies were set alight in KwaNdebele in July 1986; and
The extrajudicial murders of five would-be bank robbers - among them a former driver for Winnie Mandela - who were lured into a trap by the Vlakplaas unit near Nelspruit on March 26 1992.
Down in South Africa there is a lot of talent, that just cannot get jobs in the country nowdays....

It was the hill 304 bit, was suprisingly easy to clean compared to the other bits, maybe it was the clay that saved it.

They would be better than the NATO or UN ones.... if Queeny did not look like the grandmother in the Giles Comic with an extra large chamber pot on her head. Check out the evolution of regents heads on British medals in the last 150 years, the head gets smaller and the crown gets bigger.... with the new lot it has reached a point that when I see them I can only think "Man... thats one BIG motherfckn crown !!!"

I guess I am a bit accident prone.... it drives the wife crazy. I have 3 fingers in wrapped in plasters at the moment with a special cream to suck the dirt out of wound.... mix rust, concentrated vinegar and oil and it does make a mess of a cut....

They look slightly familiar. One of my finds still looks like crap after being given the vinegar concentrate bath for a couple of (smelly) days.
Can I "borrow" your sand blaster one day, or is it non-portable.
You kidding? My hands are scrathed and scared, the iron brush has lost a lot of bristes, but with 3 litres of vinegar, an ron brush and an opinel as rust Cutter/Chipper, I have had some wonderful results. Will get pics up in a few days.

For one, the taliban don't wear uniforms, 2. they run across the border to Pakistan if things get too hot. 3. they are well financed by saudi oil money, 4. there are lots of hiding places in the mountains. 5. they are fanatics who want to kill anyone....

Same as every other time the Brits went in to "sort them out".... or the Russkies....
