    1. I have had this U-170 grouping for several years now, but just purchased two photos of the owner recently. The grouping was to Willy Prediger, a Maschinenmaaten on the boat. The soldbuch has all of Prediger's awards entered, including the U-Boots-Frontspange in Silber. First, here are the photos recently purchased on eBay. I discovered that these photos were tied to Prediger about three hours before the auction closed, so was very lucky to get them.
    2. Great photos, Gordon. Once again, period photos continue to amaze... Best Regards, Erik
    3. Thanks, Paul! There are no photos of Haremsa wearing the DKiG. Either he was extremely modest and didn't keep any or perhaps the family held on to those photos. Does anyone know where I can research the circumstances of his DKiG award? Probably the Archiv, but any online sources? Best, Erik
    4. Thanks, Joel! Interesting tradition badges on the "flowers" group photo: a u-boat. Not what I would have expected, as this badge does not reflect any of the three U-Flotillas that U-617 was associated with (5th, 7th, 29th). I've scanned as much detail as I can get - here are two different caps in wear.
    5. Gordon, Thank you for the very quick confirmation of Haremsa's identity. You always seem to have a ready answer... Here is another shot of Haremsa (on right) with another sailor. The grouping has very few photos of Haremsa himself: he appears to have been a fairly modest man.
    6. The attendees signed the back of the preceding photo. Brandi's distinctive signature at the top.
    7. The back of this photo is labeled "Spanien 1944". A fine afternoon at the bullfights while the crew was interned.
    8. Label to Haremsa's mother for the DKiG. He won the award on January 15, 1944.
    9. Flowers in their hair, flowers everywhere... (with apologies to the Cowsills)
