    1. Early model white tunic and trousers attributed to Korvettenkapit?n and Oakleaves winner Georg Lassen. The tunic has shoulderboards for a Leutnant, the rank Lassen held from January 1938 until January 1939. I purchased the uniform as well as a greatcoat and EKI also attributed to Lassen from the same seller, who had a number of pieces (all appeared to be good period pieces) attributed to Lassen. Although I do not have any deep provenance for these pieces, I find only one "Lassen" listed in Lohmann/Hildebrand's "Die Deutsche Kriegsmarine 1939-1945". Here's the tunic
    2. Don, I think that you're right. It appears that the 57er awards used the same obverse design as shown in the Assman catalog, but the reverse setup is consistent with other 57 awards (wide pin, wide flat hook). I have found several naval wound badges online with the same obverse design but a more-expected thin needle and hook reverse, which appear to be 1930s period. Also the background on these badges is "roughened rather than pebbled" as Beau noted. Thanks to everyone for their comments. Best Regards, Erik
    3. Rick, Once again, I am in your debt. Thanks for a fast reply with a tremendous amount of relevant information! All The Best, Erik
    4. Emanuel and Pegasus, Thank you both for weighing in on this piece. I think that I may have solved the puzzle. I did a search on ebay.de and found a seller selling all three grades (black, silver, gold) of the exact same badge as mine. They are 57 versions (at least according to the eBay seller). I would not be surprised if this is correct. In any event, not WWI period. I know the seller well and will return the badge. Best Regards, Erik
    5. Saschaw and Dond, Thank you for your comments. I'm not quite ready to give up on this one yet. It came out of a respected KM collection (Don Frailey). I know that coming out of a respected collection doesn't guarantee anything, but the odds are improved... I also just saw a similar design attributed as a Type III badge as shown in William Hamelman's book "German Wound Badges". Does anyone have access to a copy of this book? Thanks! Erik
    6. I recently acquired this gold navy wound badge. It is of a different design than the silver one in my collection (also posted on this forum). I don't have any expertise in this area - is there a good reference book on Imperial wound badges? Would welcome your comments on the badge. Best Regards, Erik
    7. Shoulderboards belonging to Stabsobersteuermann Johannes Richter of U-170. Richter won the DKiG on December 26, 1944.
    8. Michel, Thank you very much for posting Wolfgang Danzer's tellerm?tze. As always - nice piece! Best Regards, Erik
    9. Ian, Thank you very much for the identification of the three crewmen! Very much looking forward to seeing your groupings. All The Best, Erik
    10. Gordon, That's a beauty! Congratulations on a fine new acquisition. Best Regards, Erik
    11. Richard, Thanks a million for showing your U-170 grouping! Amazing similarities to mine. Great to see. Nesredep and Simon - thanks for your nice comments! All The Best, Erik
    12. Joe and Rick, Thanks for the kind words. eBay has produced some great photos, although it is a pain to troll through all of the junk. I found photos of Heinz Geissler, U-390 CO, on eBay as well. I have his white tunic. It's great to tie named pieces in one's collection to a face. Best Regards, Erik
    13. 1947 Postcard sent to Prediger advising him that he is "not affected" by any ties to national socialism and militarism.
