And the sixth and final cap badge I bought in Vernon, BC at the fall antique show is a complete unknown to me. I could not find it either on the reference site (canadiansoldiers.com) and if anyone has any info on it please share it as this is an interesting cap badge. It could be related to an American unit or even a Soviet one I guess, I am totally in the dark on this one Any help out there? Cheers, Pat

The next two from my Vernon antique show pick-ups are kind of mysteries as I am not positive of the ID's on them. I checked my regular reference pages but these weren't on them. I think this first on is just a standard Infantry collar badge, but I am not sure. Any help on identifying this one is greatly appreciated. Cheers, Pat

Another of yesterday's acquisitions, a Royal Canadian Army Pay Corps badge. Not exactly a front line combat unit, but tell that to thousands of soldiers wanting their paycheck on time! This one is marked "W. Scully" from Montreal and is one of the extremely few Canadian badges that are marked I have seen. Cheers, Pat

Next of my antique show pick-ups is a nice ww2 Lord Strathcona's Horse Royal Canadians cap badge (this regiment is still active in Afghanistan right now). It is in excellent shape with great finish and I will be picking up a pin for the back tomorrow. Thanks for looking and any comments and help on the other questions mentioned previously are appreciated. Cheers, Pat

Hello again, Went to the Vernon fall antique show and found a few goodies yesterday. Mostly Canadian items there, with only my regular dealers with some German and other stuff, but nothing new. Did pick up some nice cap/collar badges though (for real cheap!). My fave of the bunch is another beauty Rocky Mountain Rangers, with the attached clip on the reverse. Excellent badge! Cheers, Pat

Hello all, Here is a cap badge I mistakenly thought was British but in fact I believe now is for the Canadian Fusiliers, City of London Regiment. It matches the one on canadiansoldiers.com but the British maker threw me off. I imagine it was made in Britain for the Canadian Regiment during wartime, or maybe I am mistaken on it being made in Britain as well. Any clarification of confirmation is helpful. Cheers, Pat

Thanks Michael for that great link to the site, has all the information I was looking for. I will PM you with some more info. I also have a couple more tidbits of info on my grandfather's time in the war. He sailed over on the ancient ship "Aquitania" which I believe was used in ww1, and he came back on the "Ils de France", a former luxury liner so he laughed at the difference in the two trips, as the Aquitania was less than "luxury" by quite a margin . His exact location for the main airbase they took over during the war was in Uterson, just outside of Hamburg, and another small town he couldn't remember before that. If anyone has any info on the RCAF in Hamburg-Uterson area in 1944-45 please share. Thanks again for looking, Pat

Some British Cap Badges
Avitas replied to Avitas's topic in Great Britain: Militaria: Badges, Uniforms & Equipment
Hello there, Just an update, the last cap badge I posted (the supposed British Grenadiers) is actually the Canadian Fusiliers City of London badge, so I will post it on my Canadian thread. Cheers, Pat -
That does seem to make sense, as that's what I noticed also was the unusual way the medals were mounted, with different medals getting different amounts of "ribbon space." Seems to be a logical explanation in my view as it does all add up as a "vet tinkered bar". Let's see what Ed thinks Cheers, Pat

SS Heimwehr ID tag
Avitas replied to Avitas's topic in Germany: Third Reich: Uniforms, Headwear, Insignia & Equipment
Thanks for the clarifications gents, I just had such a good feeling on this one Well, I didn't pay much so I think I'll just keep it for display purposes. Cheers, Pat -
Well I guess the important thing is that they are all originals Larry, speaking from someone who had a lot of fakes in my early buys. It does really bother me that these "dealers" who claim to respect the history of their items will go and falsify patinas and groupings to make more profit. Root of all evil I guess Nice medals regardless of grouping classifications. Cheers, Pat

Heer My General Assault Badges
Avitas replied to Avitas's topic in Germany: Third Reich: Wehrmacht Medals, Decorations & Awards
Thanks for the expertise gentlemen I will definitely have to track down a copy soon of Frank's book and hopefully a few more good TR collecting books, as they are hard to come by unless you know the right people So both of my badges are of unknown or mysterious origin, all the better I say. I really like the stamped example, the details are extremely crisp and the eagles head and the grenade/bayo really stand out in real-life 3-D. And as for the Wernstein? made badge I hope maybe soon someone will uncover the mystery. Cheers, Pat -

Hi PeterJ, I checked the reverses and the 2 Luftwaffe devices and the Polizei one are hollowback, and the rest are solid back. Hope that helps. Pat -

Final pic for today, the close-up of what I think is the Heer/Marine 4yr and 12yr service medals. Again, any confirmation on the ID's and any comments are welcome and a great help. Cheers, Pat -
