Hello gents, I am pleased to show my first Luftwaffe Ground Assault badge, being of the maker M.u.K. 5. It is a little dirty and worn and the catch is missing, but that made it a little more affordable I have compared to other MUK5 GA badges and the pin/catch/material/design/mm all match up so I am pretty confident it is a good one, but any further confirmation would be great. It is the 2-piece riveted eagle version, and it is a great looking badge. Here are some pics. Thanks for looking, Pat

This angle shows the edges a bit and the proper catch and pin assembly. Has slight leftover metal around the bottom edge, a side effect of the stamping I would wager, and the edges are crisp and solid. Again, a nice die-struck example in my books. Pat

Hello again chaps, I just acquired a nice SA sports badge by W.REDO in silver and thought I would post it here for discussion. Now there is some discussion about this spelling mistake (FuhRung is spelled FuhPung) in the makers mark on this style, but from what I can gather it is generally accepted as a good Redo badge. The pin/catch, concave die-struck steel construction, and details and pattern of wear and finish is exact to some known originals and I really have no worries about its originality, but still some doubt persists based on the old "Germans didn't make mistakes" argument. I have a full rant on this badge on the other forum that I will transfer over here if neccessary. Let me know what you think. Thanks, Pat

Personally, I will leave mine with the paint chips and original paint intact (rust and all). I guess it's really a personal preference, but I don't even like removing any dust or patina from my stuff! Later, Pat

Personally, I think it's some type of deterioration of the metal or paint. Check out this similar helmet with very similar white spots, http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=613, they're just a little more prevalent on Tony's example. This would lead me to believe it was inherent in this type of helmet, or maybe they're from the same batch or at least use the same manufacturing process and materials. I have the same white dots on my feuerschutz helmet as well (in the post http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=39254) Is this some type of corrosion? It is identical, I thought at first the white specks on mine must have been some sort of paint, but now it seems unlikely as what are the chances of that happening on two similar helmets. Is yours stamped DRP Thale as well, maybe identical construction methods and materials were used? Later, Pat
