Would I therfore be correct in saying that because of these "controls" there is a significant less of a chance in running into fakes with imperial items as opposed to the TR? I would also think that because of the intricate work especially enameling would really discourage post imperial period copies? Rod

Hello Laurence Thanks so much for the reply. I guess "nebenfarbe" mean the main body of the board and "waffenfarbe" the edge? Obviously I know nothing about shoulder boards. I am hoping to run into a collector that specializes in shoulder boards. Perhaps that is too much to ask. I would really like to make a trade even if it is lop sided not in my favor (my boards + $$). I am trying to make a display around a hauptmann's engraved EK1. He was a member of Unit Stab 111./Artillerie Regiment 186./ 86. Infantrie Division. So far this is the only should board I have been able to find. I have no idea what the X111 stands for. I think the pips are good for a hauptmann and there is a red edging which I again think is for artillery. Would someone please comment on how close I am to the proper shoulder boards I need? Can you suggest a source? Rod

I am trying to make a display for a Baden artillery hauptmann around his engraved EK 1. I need help to determine his proper shoulder boards. He was a member of Badisches Feld - Artillerie/ Regiment Nr. 66/ 1 Battery. I have been able to get a set of Prussian Boards which I understand would be the same as Baden would wear. They are grey, have the flaming bomb, but only one "pip" and the number "45". Would someone please comment on how close I am to the proper boards I am looking for? Also I would very much appreciate hearing from someone as to a source for what I am looking for. Thanks, Rod

I am curious....... Would someone please comment on past restrictions (if any) of purchasing or even owning pre 1914 orders, decorations and medals during the time the particular issuing state was still functioning. Would the purchaser of replacement items have to prove to the jeweler the right to purchase and own such items? Somewhere I have read that there were some sort of controls (laws?), but for the life of me I cannot re-locate that source. Rod

Hi Don (fancy meeting you here ha ha) I have ferreted through the soldbuch and it seems to just cut off during his active service after his return from Russia in what appears to be really bad shape. Maybe there is a "volume 2" soldbuch. Perhaps he died of his wounds, or discharged, or was shortly thereafter killed. ????? I was hoping to get some offical army data (like I got with my recent WW1 Hauptmann Held query) to compare to Ebker's soldbuch and hopefully beyond that point. I wonder if the official army records are more readily available for WW1 than WW2. Hummm ... very interesting.... Regards, Rod

Yep it is Vienna!!! Ohh well now I have an Order of Franz Josph and an Orden of the iron crown .... all in 18 kt gold and they cannot compare to the silver gilt of the other WW1 awards!!!! let alone the zinc of WW2.No offense but facts are facts!!!! regard and bye. Rod
