That’s a lot of 1813 crosses to hit the market all at once!!

That could ring alarm bell I might be wrong, however when few rare EKs hit the market at the same time I am always on guard We will see if more come for sale by other Dealers or Auction Houses

Hi Tony I had similar experience fie years ago  The problem is that there are people who browse on eBay and report such items to them I ha warning only They said next time my account could be temporarily suspended for 3 months

Thank you so much. Am I correct that all 1st Empire LOHs had ribbon bows at the bottom of the cross whose ends splayed out and did not go straight down like the example that I posted?

      Correct

Also the crowns are important Because the Presidency period Crown could be confused with 4th Type LOH from the First Empire period as the cross you listed The central medallion could be deceiving since many crosses had their medallions replaced at some stage due to the new Ruler or due to lost of the original ones

Thank you so much. I thought that could be the case.

Welcome I hope it helped  The  diamond shape maker marks might have the initials of the maker If you have the cross you can look with magnification if the seller has it you can ask him to look for letters within the mark In my experience the First Empire LOH are rare maker marked Mainly the hallmark is present on the ribbon ring as the one I listed above

All knight crosses from this period are Silver and anything from Officer and up are -18 Carat Gold

While on the topic - there are LOH, which some classify as "100" days model They are hybrids between the 1st Empire and Monarchy Periods crosses  The 1/2 size LOH on the middle of the pictures bellow. Some of those crosses have 1st Empire central medallions. In my opinion it was very turbulent period and parts were quickly replaced and reversed depending of  who was the Ruler for the moment

Any way I do not believe that your LOH is from this Period

I hope more members will reply with their knowledge and opinion

      Hello,

What say the experts as to the authenticity of this piece. The centers and crown look like 1st Empire but I haven't seen a period piece with a ribbon bow at the base like this one. I am told there is a diamond maker's mark on the back of that bow. Your insight would be greatly appreciated.

If Bison is out there, I have sent him a similar inquiry. Thank you!

      Jay

      LOH-1.jpg

      LOH-2.jpg

For me it is Presidency period As General  rule all First Empire LOH do not have "ribbon bow" on the bottom of the cross.

Also the Crown is typical  Presidency Period 1848-1852 Also the central medallions of all First Empire LOH (except the miniatures ans some 1/2 size Orders) are three parts design

      Picture 604.jpg

Commander Presidency Period The central medallions are similar as the one you listed

      Hello,

just as a matter of precision, this decoration is not a "medal", but a "cross", being its name "Jubiläums-Hofkreuz".

Said that, I congratulate for the nice piece found, that takes its place in your collection.

I would also like to continue this thread, by adding the similar piece, from my own collection, complete with its original case of issue.

      Best wishes,

      Hi Linas,

this badge was a new one to me and I can’t vouch for originality but there were free French paratroopers and this was a design used by them as a beret badge.

The badge they used was a British parachute regiment badge with the crown ‘cut off’, literally in most cases.

Graf, this is the auction. I agree that in miniature everything can happen and had it been a mini I'd taken this as an makers mistake/funny variation.

I was not the buyer but I was just curious if this was some super rare 1. type something given out in 5 examples, but it's most likely what both you and Megan also suggests, a trial striking/prototype/design study or similar, then still of interest but not a textbook example.

Thank you for your understanding i did not mean to upset you Just tried to get some helpful  suggestion

I hope your mini collection is growing bigger It is impressive

Megan, a valid guess that I have thought of as well, some kind of early prototype. But was thinking it could have another purpose/meaning.

Graf, I strongly disagree, it is a full size medal, not a miniature. I have a few miniatures myself of this badge and they are - miniature sizes. If you have found the lot and compare this with the other full size items it's clearly a full size.

Here you have a miniature ...

      Hi,

It could be You are more advanced collector for miniatures It looked a miniature to me. I just made a suggestion

Then if it a full size still could be makers mistake ( i have few Decorations that are legit however they have their text different from the standard ones)   ...or an early example as suggested

No harm done Good luck with your search

      Cheers

BTW  Do you have the obverse of this unusual medal it could give you some hints if it a bit different from the standard ones

I would have hoped it is in addition to existing awards for death or injury because I think this doesn’t cover enough on its own but it appears to me there are aren’t existing awards to cover either.

There is an ongoing campaign, started by a murdered WPC’s Father, with good support, for a medal to recognise his daughter’s sacrifice and that of others.

There must be others surely but on the Gov Home office site there are just 3 awards listed, one for each service.

      Criteria for each.

My outsiders opinion (never served) has long been that service in the UK Armed Forces is massively unappreciated/unrecognised generally & also unrewarded medal wise.

The Elizabeth Cross being introduced in 2009 was at least something.

I now see the emergency services are largely unrecognised also.

In a time where the awards list is mostly made up of pop stars and other trendy recipients it’s time that King & Govt recognised real service to this Nation.

      - The real service & real sacrifice of all who sign their lives over to the armed forces for however long & in whatever role. All pay a price.
      - The real service & risks involved in the daily work of the emergency services.

      cheers

Definitely all part of the fun. 👍
My recent weakness is British uniforms,  too late I’ve realised that 50 medals fit in a shoebox whereas 50 tunics have taken over my flat … there’s no hiding it.

But I’ve no wife to curtail me nor kids to feed so why not eh 😊

Yes Tony  You can do it It cheers our life

I also had a point i was collecting uniforms  ,bicorns and epaulettes

I gave up To maintain them was  a hassle Sold them  and kept only handful

Yes, it is part of the fun

    12. Yes interesting The one with 1921 looks like miniature Also the text appear to be bigger size.

I traced the Auction It is a miniature I  suspect  typo mistake and also they did not have a space for the HUNGARICA

      Just a thought

Another possibility It could be a case like the miniatures of the Bulgarian Order for Bravery 1915 Model

Most of the miniatures have date 1912 i have seen only couple with the correct 1915 Date

Thanks Gordon, yet another variety. What a minefield. I had hoped something here  would have just a bit of age or would be interesting, the Veterans cap badge made me optimistic but I didn’t expect them, if they were knock offs, to be quite so poor. Having said that there are so many different looking examples, claimed to be genuine, maybe ‘they’ are confused even what to copy 🤷‍♂️

Fortunately I’m normally drawn to simpler areas of collecting (hoarding 😊)

      Hello Rich,

that’s a lovely set of paperwork to have.

And the translations in your first post are an interesting read and new for me.

I too cannot speak German, I’m getting better at ready the writing but one without the other isn’t so helpful 🤷‍♂️

If I had to guess which is which though…

I think the first entry will be the KTK.

      then the EK next

then the third entry is for the bravery medal

hopefully one of our helpful German speakers will spot your document and help us out (correcting me most likely 😊)

      cheers
