The history behind the man makes the item much more special.
Congrats.

RIA had a grouping attributed to him. There was a pilot badge in it but little info.

You just have to love the quality of Imperial awards.

Was he an officer or NCO?

He was a pilot in WW1. What awards etc did he earn? All help is appreciated.

I guess it was ok to take secrets home with you back then.

Luckily the bar was not mint so finding replacements with appropriate wear was easy.

Nice. The bars won't damage the docs I hope.

Could we pin the 1870/1 EK recipient's list to the top of this forum please?

Dave, thanks for the info. I will ponder which DA I will go with. Perhaps when I go to attach the Centenarmedal it will become more clear.
Everyone else, thanks for the nice comments. I'll update this thread as the restoration takes place. Hopefully by then I will figure out why my phone pics post upside down.

Don,
What is the cipher on the SEK4X?
Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt had its own Dienstauszeichnung, but Schwarzburg-Sondershausen typically awarded active NCOs the silver Ehrenmedaille for 12 years' service. I think the missing one is more likely an earlier-awarded Prussian DA3 for 9 years' service or a DA1 for 15 years. An LD2 is possible, but I think he is more likely an career NCO who then took a civil service job (military service time would count toward the Treuedienst-Ehrenzeichen).
It's GFC for Schwarzburg-Sonderhausen.As for the LS medal, the thread for tieing the award down around the ose is still present. The distance from the tie down (top of the medal to the bottom of the bar is approx 34mm.
The missing medals make absolutely no sense to me because they are all common and relatively cheap.

If I had to guess at an ID I would say Ohio fraud parts bars. The reverse will tell for sure.

Is that the whole picture in post 1 or is there more?

I imagine he took the ring to his grave, literally.

You have a lot of stuff. Nice stuff.

Not so much a grouping but a collection of items. No one else bothered to bid.

Perhaps it was to convert existing peace time awards into wartime awards.

That's one of those dealers you need to be careful with imo.
