I recently picked up this Chassepot bayonet locally but am puzzled by the fitting on the scabbard.
I have had a few of these before but have never seen this loop on a scabbard, It appears to be contemporary with the bayonet and is very well executed and does not appear to be a crude field modification.
Any ideas would be very much appreciated.

Just checked in 'Littlejohns Foreign Legions of the Third Reich' volume 4 and found it, Finish commemorative badge for the North Front. Thanks for the pointers and ID once again.

Many thanks for that guys, I do have a book with Finish awards so I'll have a look there. Found this one amongst an ebay shop just marked as a ww2 German soldier and nice and cheap so welll pleased.

Another request for identification I'm afraid. This photo is a recent purchase from EBAY and I'm struggling to ID the award worn under the black wound badge. I'm also guessing on his arm of service, all I'm certain of is he's not infantry. Any ideas please.

Thanks again for your speedy reply. The original is in that typically small ( and infuriating ) format of photos of this period. I ve looked under a glass at the pockets and the only one I can make out to any degree is the right hand man with the 'x' marked under him. His pockets appear to be unpleated but again its a small image so I can't say for certain. One things for sure though and that is they have just come from the rifle range. Wet knees and dirty boots! I remember it well!!!!!!!

Thanks for the speedy reply. Am I right in assuming then that the lobster bibs are covering the Eagle insignia and that these soldiers would be from the early third Reich period?

A recent EBAY purchase, and from the lack of breast eagle insignia I guess the troops are from the Weimar era. However I cannot find any reference to the tunic covers which the troops appear to be wearing. Any help would be most appreciated.
