The Daily Mail has US experts saying between 7000 and 13000 pounds. (US$11,200 & 78,000)
Probobly around there too, 1mil sounded excessive, but then again, do these US experts want to buy the coin? biggest bang for the "buck" hehehe I'm so bad in these jokes :D

You will get it in the end! just keep searching and even sometimes clicking links that don't correspond to each other that's how I sometimes get a hit, in random places.
You'll get it for sure, just takes a bit of time and a lot of luck excellent ring btw and hope she can join your collection soon

Those that Radmilo listed all used Rothe's mould and for sure different masters produced different variations, maybe even some of these are custom ordered pieces or put together in the workshop from different degrees. We have very limited info and resources on these medals, but for sure it is either Hugeunin, or Lesser. I think more Lesser because of the 800. I know Huguenin only hallmarked in the 900 and up ranges to account for quality of silver.
As is mentioned, your piece has different aspects of each producer (you have a crown above the eagle that is characteristic of Huguenin pieces) if the 800 wasn't present we would most likely assume (as we've done in the topic) that it is Huguenin or similar. I really like the differences in the piece which make it cool in my opinion I think further research and looking and comparing examples are needed before we get a "100% decision" who knows, maybe there is a 800 HF piece somewhere, but for now with all the information we know, it is 100% a legit piece
I'd say 95% chance it is Lesser from the info. we have, Hallmark is probably 90% of that while 5% we're comparing the look and feel of current known Lesser pieces.

Edit: Mum looked at it today and told me it is definatley Lesser, they stamped all of theirs with 800 and only small batch has the JL along with for hallmarking. HF didn't stamp theirs (at least to her knowledge and ones in her collection)
Mystery solved Great job Radmilo :D

Sorry to bring up this thread a bit, but any chance of finding the recipient? I have a zilch in luck for searching German records (and probably what info. I do have access to isn't enough)
Would anyone be able to suggest a recipient from the list above that may be suitable/ another source to look into?
Thank you,
Igor :)

From the time period it is definatley Huguenin Brothers they used Rothe's molds so a lot of their pieces look exactly like Rothe, but since Rothe is from a previous time period than Huguenin, it is definatley Huguenin.
Excellent piece :)

Awesome info Iver thank you for sharing and what a great set
I was able to find a bit more information about the ship Captain von Stecher commanded,
S.M.S. (Korvette) “Frundsberg"
After its service it was hulked in 1905, it became a mine storage ship during WW1 and was handed over to Yugoslavia in 1920, becoming "Zlarin" her fate is unknown after that.

This one recently came into the collection, it is a beautiful piece and I can't be more happy with it a nice tag on the bottom mentioning the Austrian recipient is also present. Along with 14k Austrian hallmarks on the crown suspension ring and hallmarks for VM (Vinc Mayer) on both the gold suspension ring and silver Danilo piece itself
In a general search online that I was doing while trying to find more information on Captain von Stecher, I was fortunate to find that a friend on the forum, Iver owns another piece from Battleship Captain Friedrich von Stecher's orders and medals he shared with me his research on him and I'm looking forward to Iver's following posts, I feel like we've "re-united" the pieces of the Captain's collection. Here is a link to Iver's topic :)for his Bronze Military Merit Medal to Captain von Stecher

Here are some pics

and I was able to find his Order of Danilo Roll, here is the extract where he is listed :
I'll post a bit more information on the Captain, when Iver gets a chance to post
Any information, photos, comments are greatly appreciated :)

Since this appears to be the plated version (later war issue) it would be hard to tell, I'd go with Bronze too because of the attachment ring.
Oh and just in case you see the all silver civilian version, there is also an all Silver Version, actually made of silver (very rare)
Here is a pic of one from my collection it'll have a marking on the rim of the medal (my example has A for Vienna
Although I was told it is in later case of issue. Still was very lucky to have purchased the medal
