Question on normal Vietnam deployment
E Williams replied to army historian's topic in United States of America
Can't speak for the Navy aboard ships, I would think it would be the same...it was 12 months exactly (one tour) for in-country assigned. It was not considered a hardship tour as Korea was (13 months) but was a combat tour of one year. One could ask for additional time. One received a 30 day paid trip to anywhere in the free world for extending their tour by 6 months (per extension) and there was 15 days travel allowance added on. If you were a career soldier/sailor, you didn't get off with just one tour. -

It was authentic. A MOH you see from time to time but the citation is a bit more scarce. I would have thought also the price could have been a bit more. It sold within minutes. You can acquire a MOH and citation here as a gift when you buy a pack of gum for a few thousand dollars. There is always a loophole. -

Tammy arrived today with my brand new scanner, God bless her for coming a day early. She said she couldn't wait. So, she is resting and I have installed the CD and I'm ready to go. First I want to post what I received today also, acquired from my tip jar. Translation is greatly appreciated. Thanks Ed

Whizz bangs and Jack Johnsons ... nicknames
E Williams replied to IrishGunner's topic in The Great War 1914 to 1918
Was it Jack Johnson, the boxer, who's name was given to certain German artillery? He had quite a boxing career beating the Cornish Boxer Fitzimmons in 1907. Fitzsimmons was also a world champion with a great career.
