Good observation. When I saw this one around 5-6 years ago and saw the maker in the listing title, I thought it would be a blade, too!

Here is the picture. So what is the monument?? And for Chris...

Don, you are one of a very select group. Note how the ribbon loop has "tarnished" the ribbon, which is obviously an EK2 variety. This would make sense especially in the case of the recipient; he was a tanker and those panzer uniforms had some pretty narrow collars. A pic of the recipient is to the rear of this shot. I put together a selection of all his listed decorations, and some of the other things he might have owned. Also, see the picture of the German WW1 soldier in the helmet? A friend of mine took this picture in Germany back in the 70's. It is from a monument to the war dead, and is (I think) one of four heads each facing a compass point from beneath an obelisk... not sure. But I have forgotten which monument!!! Someone help me out. The photographer waited by the monument all day, so as to get the setting sun's light right. It was worth the wait, it's a great picture... very somber and evocative.

...PDQ. Not too many people know I have this. I don't remember ever posting it anywhere, but now I'm pulling the body from the cellar. I would scan some closeups, but how many K & Q RK's do you need to scrutinize? It's a "known" cross, one previous "celebrity" owner, w/Niemann COA and provenance. Enjoy.

A display I have had for some time. The bar at top came to me w/o the service medal. I slipped it in simply for display. Likewise, the bar at bottom is a ribbon bar; all the medals are slipped under it (not mounted) just for display purposes. I acquired the medal and ribbon bars some years apart, but it is generally agreed that they belonged to the same guy. For one, that oversized wreath is a bit of vanity not often seen. Also it is not so common to find HK's married to these sets, as the "supermen" recipients did not generally survive to get them!

Great one. I love the way the guy added the HK at the end. Vanity meets with pride.

One will never know. Closest guess I can make is a hospital administrator, or railroad official, or a munitions manufacturer liaison. There does exist a Johanniter's Cross medal for hospital administrators serving at the front, but the war ended before any could be awarded. Definitey a curious bar. If he was a soldier, then where are the long service medals?

But you DO have a clue. The HK is correct. I'll drop a caveat... we might "assume" the HK is correct...
