Interesting.... Below is pictured a WWI officer's bar with the order of Christ 3 class. I am attempting to trace the bar to the original owner. I want to make sure that the medal is for sure the Order of Christ 3 class. Also I was told that this medal was awarded before 1910. Is this correct? Thanks for the help.

Autur Gestering was commissioned a Lt der Reserve in the Bayern Army, IR 1, on May 23, 1903. He was promoted in Oberlt on December 11, 1911 and obtained the rank of Hauptmann some time after the start of the war. On July 16, 1915 Hauptmann der Reserve Inf. Rgt. 1 was awarded the BVO4bX. Since he is reserve it is not possible to track the balance of the service in WWI as the Prussian Honor Ranklists does not list reserve officers. The tunic of Gestering is a correct Bayern tunic with Brandenburg cuffs and straps for shoulder boards. The tunic has loops for a 2 medal medal bar and they medal are the bayern Jubellee and Bayern 2 class lonmg service decoration. When I purchased the tunic it came with incorrect Hauptmann boards to a officer the 11th IR. How do I know this tunic belonged to Gestering and where did I get his service information? The service information came from the Byaern Military Handbook. And the tunic is named!

Bayern Lanyard
Paul C replied to Paul C's topic in Germany: Imperial Uniforms, Headwear, Insignia & Personal Equipment
Chip, Thanks for the help. The cord does look like ti it white, black and red. But the shield is perfectly sewn to the cord. Is the shield maybe a Prussian shield? Do you have a picture of a Prussian or Bayern lanyard. From the construction of the cord and shield I find it hard to believe that it was messed with. -
Bayern Lanyard
Paul C replied to Paul C's topic in Germany: Imperial Uniforms, Headwear, Insignia & Personal Equipment
Dan, Thanks for the help. I just looked at do not see a silver content on the back. This came with a Bayern Officer's tunic so I took it off. The tunic is good but none of the items, except the belts, went with it. The ribbon bar was wrong also. I checked inside the pocket of the tunic and IDed the guy. See Artur Gestering post. -
I purchased a Bayern Officer's Tunic and when I got home and looked in the inside pocket I found a very clear maker's lable from Munich and the officer's name which is Artur Gestering of the Bayern 1 Inf. Rgt. In 1909 he was a LT with a date of rank of May 27, 1903. He was promoted to OberLT on December 15, 1911. As of 1914 he has no other promotions and was awarded only the Bayern Jubilee and Lepoald medal. If anyone ahs any additional information that would be great. Thanks.

[attachmentid=28938][attachmentid=28938]Hey All, I jets picked up a Bayern pre 1914 Tunic. It came with a incorrect ribbon bar and this lanyard. I think it is an enlisted man's item. Is that so? It is correct Bayern. How rare are these? I would like to keep it but I would like to get a rough idea of value. Any help is greatly appreciated. I can't post a picture of the uniform as my camera is gone.

ANother recent pick up to a Offz. Stellv. Franz Behrend of 1 Guard Ulanen. The group is far from complete but the really nice struff is there. A EK1 doc dated in 1919 and 2 docs in regards to him being made a officer. If anyone can shead additional light on the offcer docs please do so. The final doc, and I am guessing the rare one, is the Finnish Freedom Medal 1st class. dated November 26 1918. The stamp is from ther OSTSEEDIVISION. I am not sure how rare the Finnish doc is or the value. Any help is really appreciated.

One of several items from the SOS. This was on a Bayern pre-1914 Hauptmann's tunic. It does not go with the tunic. It is a 9 place bar to a Navy officer. The ribbons are 1914 EK2, Hindenburg, Red Eagle Order, Prussian Crown Order, Prussian 25 year long service, China campaign with "Tientsin" clasp, 1916 King Ludwig and Bayern Price Regent Leopold ribbon. Per the "Master" the bar is for Navy officers, if I remember correctly a Korvettkaptian, for the reason that the Tientsin clasp was only given to Navy men who serve on ship at the port of Tientsin. Also due to the Red Eagle and Crown order probable Korvettkaptian. The guy was probable a native of Bayern because of the two Bayern awards. The back is very interesting in that the pin does not go the full width and probable the EK and Hindenburg were late add ons. Stay tune for an ID aS working on it.
