As of 15:46 hours Thursday 4th May 2023….
“Options for the effigy of the King which will be used on official medals are still under consideration. As such we are not striking any medals which carry the effigy of the King at this time.”

Breaking news - 5 years service OR on the parade.

Thought this might be of interest…

Oxfordshire’s Lord Lieutenant, Mrs Marjorie Glasgow BEM, attended the prestigious event to present ‘Her Majesty, The Queen’s Long Service and Good Conduct’ medals to eleven firefighters, each for 20 years’ service.
The Queen’s medal title has been retained this year, even though King Charles III is the new monarch – this is due to the individuals achieving their 20 years’ service in the reign of Queen Elizabeth II and in line with the royal warrant.1 -

MOD FOI request, confirmed that as of the 3rd April 2023 -
Medal (ER II Effigy)
Stock Held
Long Service & Good Conduct Medal 39 for the MOD Police.Long Service & Good Conduct Medal 57 for the Defence Fire & Rescue Service.
https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/ ... O.pdf.html
Of particular note is this -
To answer your third question, I can confirm that no information is held determining a policy for
when those qualifying personnel will attract award of the 'old' or 'new' style of medal.
To answer your fourth question, I can confirm that no information is held on the timeline for
procurement or issue of new LSGC medals at present.
To answer your fifth question, I can confirm that no Information is held as no designs have been
approved by His Majesty as yet.
As the Royal Mint have not been excepting orders for new medals for pushing 6 months now. It appears that not only do we have no formal answer as to when C111R medals will be released, but no concrete confirmation as to when or if E11R examples ceased to be.
Which has sort of left us in a void.
Certainly something that further generations of medal collectors will ponder 🤔 😂…0 -

Doesn’t appear that there are substantial “stocks” of military LSGC’s. Can only assume that the same is true for the emergency services.
However, the following might be of further interest?

It certainly is a very interesting subject!
I assume the same situation, played out with regards the allocation of silver jubilee medals?
One thing that does seem unusual, is the fact that with 2 weeks to go, the powers that be would have us believe that no medal or indeed ribbon has been confirmed, surely something like this would have been created/decided upon years ago??
Also why there is such uncertainty as to the criteria, again it’s not like they didn’t know this event would happen at some point?

The coinage head for King Charles III is uncrowned and set to remain so. Whether the same design will be used for medals will have to be seen.
Now that a crowned effigy has been released, will be interesting to see if regular police LSGC’s use it and Specials continue with the uncrowned version.0 -

There were several similar style badges issued by various UK police forces- usually for acts of bravery where it was not sufficient for something like the KPM, and when the force didn't have a bravery medal to award. Examples are the 1867 Birkenhead BoroughPolice Merit Badge usually awarded for bravery (I don't have an image), and the Devon & Cornwall Constabulary Chief Constable's Commendation Star, image attached below. There were likely other similar awards, all of which I would love to collect!
Very interesting, thanks for sharing 👍.0 -
Not seen any other police examples. But here’s one to the Fire Service.

(*It’s Daily Mail granted…..)

Rumour has it that the ribbon has now been confirmed, and limited lengths of it, have been released to selected tailors?

Wow! At last....
So, major update to my UK section - needless to say at the busiest time of the academic year - to make space for all the medals that will have a King Charles version ready for when they crawl out into public and I can find images that I can use.
My thoughts exactly!!!!I understand that this BEM was presented to an old boy, for services to charity. Something along those lines anyway? It was presented to him a few weeks ago now, by all accounts. So with a bit of luck we’ll start seeing more over the coming weeks.
Will be interesting to see if the KPM and LSGC’s will start to be issued in time for them to be worn on Coronation day.

I suppose so. I guess things go wrong sometimes. What is your personal opinion on whether or not they will be issued and the criteria? I think in that press release they more or less said that they will be late, whatever form they will take.
Appears, they’ll be at least 6000, assuming all those present, are to be awarded one?

My understanding is that if your a serving officer (with 5 years service) on Saturday, you’ll qualify. Regardless of if your on leave or at the parade or not 👍.
