Have heard that the BEM is the first medal with the CIIIR effigy but have not seen any yet.
Looking forward to seeing this and indeed all the new medals, which will potentially contain the King’s effigy.
It is curious that all these awards have been announced, yet no photographs appear to yet exist?

I’m hearing rumours that Worcestershire Mint have the contract. But no word yet on any criteria.

How interesting!!
Thanks for sharing.
Just out of interest, when was this photograph taken?
Is it Gv1R or a very short lived Edward V111?

If this link is correct, it would appear that medals bearing the King’s effigy have in fact now begun to be minted?

Does anyone know the exact date as to when these will physically presented?
Look forward to seeing the first photos of this new medal!!

Graciously approved is a generic term. I wouldn't read into it. Remains to be seen whether it'll be the first CIIIR. It could be like the Korea Medal and have the new monarch, or be like the Arctic Star and have the old monarch (although in that case it was just a cypher). If it is of the Queen it'll be an older effigy. Probably the same as the GSM 1962.
Looks like this medal will be the first, to bear the King’s effigy. If this report in the Daily Express is accurate…

Wonder what treasures his person file will reveal!!0 -

Saw this on another forum, thought it might be of interest?
Thread related to the new Border Agency LSGC. Although this medal was authorised earlier this year and draft images show it with the Queen’s effigy. It now appears that it won’t be issued until spring 2023, and will go straight to the King’s effigy…
“Just seen a letter stating that the medal will start to be presented in Spring 2023 "...as soon as the portrait of the new King on the Medal has been confirmed and the Royal Mint has done its work.”
*Not sure about the choice in colours for the ribbon mind 🤢.0 -

Would be interested to see photos, of this award when it moves over to the King Charles effigy, if anyone is in a position to do that?
I assume these awards predate the 8th September 22?

neverknew either of those things but good to know. I wonder if everyone with five years will get one though or its just those involved in it? I will be pretty sore if I dont get one, haha.
Will certainly be interesting to see what the criteria is.I love a good conspiracy theory 😆, so here’s one for you…
Has King Charles decided to have a more reduced Coronation, because he only intends to reign for a few years before handing over the William……
Could we see a repeat of the 1902 -1911 medal situation….

Nothing unfortunately and a Google search reveals little. Shame really.
Saw this which, I thought might be of interest?
“King Charles III is the oldest monarch to assume the British throne at 73 years old.”
The reason why, I mention this is that I have heard rumours that the 8th September might be the qualification date for the Coronation Medal as apposed to the 6th May……

Things seem to be coming together, (with NWP anyway)….. The May 2002 intake of officers, were formally presented with their LSGC’s a week or so ago (6 months or so after the fact - now whether this delay was as a result in the whole process or due to an appropriate venue being available I cannot say). Interestingly these medals should be the last NWP officers to receive the E11R version, as the next intake wasn’t until October 2002.
Would be interested to hear, if other forces HR departments have also turned over a new leaf, in relation to a prompter awarding system…..

Given that the LSGC was introduced in 1951, to officers who have the requisite amount of service. I suspect that Gv1R LSGC’s to very senior officers, could thus potentially be relatively common, as they could potentially be in their 29 or 30 years of service by the time it came into being.
I would also assume that the rank on their medal would be that at the time the medal was instituted, as apposed to the rank they had achieved on their 22nd year?Where as examples to very senior officers with regards to the E11R version would be far rarer (if exist at all?).
Any thoughts?

Have contacted the Royal Mint, requesting clarification as to what’s actually intended to happen with regards the issuing of police LSGC’s post 8th September. My request has been acknowledged and forwarded on to the relevant department…..

Old thread, but interesting.
Do you wear your originals or copies?
Personally I wear my originals, my thinking being that’s what there designed for. Although I do understand why people would want to keep their originals in there boxes.
Long gone are the days of officers only having an LSGC. Not unusual now to see officers with 3 or 4 medals.
Starts getting a bit expensive, buying copies and getting them mounted!0 -

I would be interested to hear if anyone has one of these in their collection - both pre-1935 and post-1968 issues, with a particular emphasis on naming styles. Also interested in Seychelles variants.
Did any of these ever turn up Tony?

Has anyone come across any badges/insignia of the Gilbert & Ellis Islands Constabulary please? They were a Pacific British protectorate from 1892 and colony from 1916 until 1 January 1976 when they became independent as Tuvalu and Kiribati.
There are some documents referenced in the National Library of Australia, but nothing is available online.
NW
Would they have been awarded the British Police LSGC, in the same way that Australia, Papua New Guinea and Nauru, were?

As part of my collecting police medals, I am keen to acquire an 1887 City of London Police Jubilee medal (with or without the 1897 bar). If anyone has one for sale, or can recommend likely sources (eg other collectors, or dealers etc) I would be most grateful!

King’s Effigy on medals, to be issued imminently.

I attempted to seek clarification from the Royal Mint under FOI request, and received a very curious response.
Which I don’t really understand?
Dear FOI,
I qualified for my LSGC on the 14th October this year. My question is thus, given my qualification date, will my medal have our new King’s effigy on it, or our former Queen’s effigy?
Kind regards,
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX.
Dear XXXXXXXXXXXXX.
We don’t hold any further information in this regard unfortunately. It will be the Police, as issuing authority, who will, we imagine, have a policy on this so you may wish to direct your request to them.
Regards
