the badge appears to be the type made by Deumer of Ludenschied,maybe a variant without the cut-out swastia?

The hinge and pin look original to the badge and may have broken off at some point and been re-attached,as you mentioned.

Looks like a good zinc badge to me.

Here is the reverse of the Minesweeper.The outline is very similar to that of the Hilfskreuzer badge,with the same type of cuts on the edges of the wreath.It probably had the same hand finishing as the HSK badge.

The hinge and mainpin are virtually identical.

Here are images of the Meybauer Minesweeper that Gordon mentioned.This badge is from the collection of Mark McShane.The cut out swastika can be clearly seen here on the obverse.

The reverse shows the Meybauer type pin.Mike K noted that the "cuts" on the edges of the wreath are nicely done hand filing/finishing details indicating that someone had way too much on their hands and were not filling an order in the 100's.

This could suggest that the badge was produced in small numbers by the maker,hence it's rarity?

This is the latest addition to my HSK collection,and probably the rarest i have seen so far.It is a complete tombak piece,including the globe and has a reverse set up that is attributed to Paul Meybauer.

Sadly,the catch is missing on this example and the badge shows considerable wear,but still i nice one to have,as it it the only one i have seen to date.

This is also the only example of a HSK badge i have seen with a cut-out swastika.

Great thread Gordon.I agree that Juncker is also my favourite design,with the Schickle,Mayer,Zimmerman type a close second.Funcke & Bruninghaus and Meybauer would be third.

Hi Gordon,

this badge is courtesey of Sascha Weber.It has the same reverse features around the eagles head as Stewy's badge,i think.Looks like it has a more "typical' Foerster & Barth type pin,as seen on your examples.

As you mentioned,probably a different set of tooling used by F&B.

I have seen the style of pin on Stewy's badge used on some of their HSK badges.

My Foerster & Barth Fleet badge is concave.I have also owned a couple of FO Fleet badges that were "very" concave in design.I have never had an RS&S or a Mayer example in hand,but from the images i have looked at of these badges,they certainly appear concave to me.

I informed Erik of the die-flaw a couple of weeks ago when he sent me images of his rather uncommon example,with the incused Maker mark,which also has the flaw.

Some months ago i was looking at examples of FLL badges when i noticed this "flaw" appeared in all original examples.

I guess i stumbled upon it accidentaly.

The "flaw" is in the form of a small cicular indentation in the lower part of the gun housing.slightly above and to the left of the ribbons.

I will post a couple of examples below.They are not hard to see,in fact,quite obvious.

So obvious,i thought to myself,am i the first to notice this???

This is an area that i know very little about.I do know,as Timothy mentioned,that the spur on the right arm,is the insignia of a "rough rider".

Here is a photo of my grandfather,RA, wearing the spur above the crossed swords on his right arm.The photo is cica 1919.

My father mentioned to me that grandad was a "rough rider".

I beleive he "broke-in" the horses that came over from Ireland to the continent or England?
