    1. Hi Kevin,

i may have posted this one before but after going through the database i could not find it.

A Minesweeper document to a Stabsobersteuermann Walter Fiedler, signed in Wilhelmshaven on 8 November 1940.

      It is a large 12 x 81/2 inch (A4) doc.

Sadly, the signature of the K,zur See und Fuhrer der Minensuchverbande Nord has faded and is barely visible.

Any idea who the signer of this document was ?

Any help would be appreciated here.

Being honest here i am going to sell this document but it would be nice to figure out who signed it.

I need to raise money for a very special (to Me) Hilfskreuzer document.

      Many thanks,Martin.

    2. This might be of interest too John.

This is the "awards" page from a postwar Wehpass i have that belonged to Gerhard Haelbich.

Haelbich was a Flt.Officer on the 1st cruise of the Hilfskreuzer Thor.

We can see that he was awarded his Observer badge on 5-12-39.

He received his Hilfskreuzer award for sevice on the Thor (Schiff 10) on 26-6-41.

He later went on to receive the Aufklarer Clasp in gold on 1-3-42.,with Gruppe 406.

      Regards,Martin.

    3. I've often wondered why it's near impossible to find photos of other KM badge minis in wear, and I can only assume it's because in wartime there was virtually no opportunity for a sailor to be off for an extended leave in cvilian clothes to wear such a thing.

      Best regards,

      ---Norm

Interesting point Norm and i have to admit i am inclined to agree with you.

Besides the mini BB award the only other KM mini's i have seen in wear on civilian clothes are post 1957.

      Regards,Martin.

    4. Well, not something i would collect either Chris but i do feel fortunate to have them, especially as they came from the family.as i mentioned.

There were some other WWi period cards, not related to the "song" cards that were in the group.

One relates to the death of Kitchener on 5th June 1916.The reverse is blank.

The other is a postwar card titled "Pace at Last".There is a date written on the reverse,"France,Feb 25 1919".

      Regards,Martin.

    5. Hi guys,

i have just acquired this set of cards that have been in the family for decades.I beleive they were collected by my grandmother during the war years. They were passed down to my mother and now to me.

I guess i have to describe them as "song" cards.I have about 130 of these cards and most are complete sets of cards with three or four verses, one verse per card.Sadly, some of the sets are incomplete with verses/cards missing.

I remember looking at these these cards when i was a child.I found them very sad and i still do today. Some of the cards are damaged but most are in very good condition considering the handling of nearly 100 years.

They are a sad and poignant reminder of the period i think.

      Regards,Martin.
