Hi,
I received the pictures, checked them and compared to my juncker crosses. I don't see anything which seems wrong. the cross has certainly been polished (it is the only explaination that comes to my mind), but it retains particular details on the pebbling of both centre circle and cross that let me think it is an original one.

hi,
I confirm that the cross is absolutly original. it seems that some remains of gilding can be seen on the swords grips. It could be a gold cross, but hard to say.
jacques
Hi
It looks good, but difficult to tell if it is gold or silver highly polished.
Nevertheless is it possible to have a close up of the 2 swords grips ?
jacques
Hello,
In my opinion it is a fake.
- I never saw reputed original signed "Meissner". Only the facsimile of A.H.
- the ink colour of the signature isn't good
- no RUNK among the listed dead in Spain
- the text for the owner isn't right.
- the date isn't good (17 januar 1940)
such documents are very scarce, more than the cross itself.

No, sorry, I just downloaded the picture when this bar was offered, and I found the information in a book. NOthing more is written about this men to my knowledge. If he was awarded this medal, he certainly participated to a special action as observer.
jacques
I guess the owner was attached to the AS88: Arno Kleyenstuber from AS88.
he was in Spain from spring 1937 to jannuary 1938, observer on HE59-HE60, based in Malaga and later in Pollensa (Majorca)
Hi Scott,
SAZ is indeed a spanish manufacturer from this period. I don't know how it has been marked or not , and how to recognize them; I never see one in flesh.
As I said, German manufacturers also made this medal, and I would like to see these variants too.
Best regards
jacques
Hi Scott,
very nice medal. I don't knw the differences between the spanish makers, but our spanish friends will certainly enlighten us quickly. It looks period to me.
jacques
Here is a new one. It is the third I got from the same man. the picture is a bit blurry. Note he wears the spanish cross on the left side of his panzer wrap.
Fake. Stay away
the case is also a fake.
Many thinks don't match to an original:
eagle's design, pebbling, maker's mark, pin, catch, gilding, swords grip design,
