His final discharge confirmation sent by certified mail:

His WWI discharge (5th December 1918):

Before his discharge he was commanded to be stationed 3 months in France (Paris). Now I understand why he did want to stay as an active officer in service!

A discharge letter from his superior (Oberst Kdr Wehrbezirk Offenburg/Baden) competent for his military district in WW2. It seems that, although Meurer was eager to stand at disposal for being re-called into active military service, had to regrettably make place for younger officer... (that was in August of 1943).

Very interesting: his Wundzettel (Wound-Card for transportation). These kind of cards are very rare to find, since most of them were used and thrown away. Hptm Meurer kept it as a "souvenir"... :jumping:

His "vorläufiges Besitzzeugnis" (temporary entitlement doc) for his EK1 on the Eastern front...

Here a close up of the memorabilia which Meurer kept in his box; as you can see there are also 3 metal pieces stored in the lower left hand corner of the box. These are the shrapnels extracted from his body (as he noted "08.06.18, 6 Uhr 30 vormittag in Vassens durch Artilleriegeschoss am Kopf, Rücken und linken Unterschenkel schwer verwundet und dem Feldlazarett 56 überwiesen").

Dear forumites,
It was quite a while ago that I didn't post anything. This group is nothing new in my collection, but I just wanted to show it to you, because there are many interesting documents. This veteran kept all his documents and collected his medals in a especially made box.

Hi Andy!
Welcome to this club... The bar you show I have already seen it on German forum, but it's really nice to see it again. Btw it's a hell of a bar, a center piece in any medal bar collection. Congrats!
Ciao,
Claudio

Well, well,... I don't know if this bar should be discussed; it's quite a waste of time.
First of all the combination presents a couple of questions already:
- Why a Zentenarmedaille with a BMVO? Possible, but than this officer would have been a Prussian... but no medals from Prussia? Not even a long service medal (also as reservist)
- If this officer was Bavarian why there isn't the Luitpold jubilee medal (1905-08) or any other LS or commemortive medals?
- With the Hindeburg Cross (FEK) issued around 34-35, this bar should have put together after 35? Why is this guy wearing the Flanderncross (like Heiko said with the wrong ribbon), since all veteran and fantasy medals issued during the Weimar era is still in place?
- Construction: looks brand-new, but the medals show diffent shades of wearing conditions? Strange... also I don't like the colour of the threads and the material and pieces being used (needle, backing, color of the thread). It doesn't screem to me like being typically constructed before WWII
Finally I can say that I wouldn't touch it even with a 10 meters long pole... but this is just my guts' feeling! ;-)
Ciao,
Claudio

Hi Heiko!
I found his photo on the internet.

Original pieces have a very specific fixing of the iron swords.
That's exactly the reason why I purchased that medal bar. You can recognize also from the picture (see rost on the swords); these swords are magnetic.
Thank you for your determination of the maker.
ciao,
Claudio

Here's a bigger scan of the already quite bad color picture of Kube's catalog... (not digital)

Hi Mike,
That is exactly the ribbon bar I meant... the group remained un-sold! No wonder by such a starting price (first time Eur 8000.-, 2nd time Eur 6800.-).
I can try to make a better scan from Kube's catalogue.
Ciao,
Claudio
