    1. George, First, welcome to the GMIC. Hope you'll find it as good a resource for collecting as I have. Thanks for replying to my message. I appreciate your offer. The man I am looking for is James Nelson, a US Navy sailor who died in Yokohama while on shore leave, in I think 1896. On his paperwork it is noted he was buried in the foreign cemetery in Yokohama. He was sleeping in a house when the flame on a gas lamp went out and the gas suffocated him in his sleep. Unfortunately I am in the middle of trying to sell a house and move to a smaller one, and almost everything I own is in boxes, including most of my medal collection. I'm sorry I can't give a specific date of death, but I will try to locate the medal and his paperwork and send you anything I can find that may be of help. I appreciate anything you might be able to provide. Regards, FireMedals
    2. What's on your mind?

    3. Can't be 100% either, but I've never seen this award ID'ed as a fire brigade award. Could be a generic town award, but can't say. FireMedals
    4. I have a US Navy medal awarded to a sailor who died in Yokohama in the 1890's and is buried in the The Yokohama Foreign General Cemetery. I would like to find someone who lives in the area and might be able to try to find his grave and get a photo for me. According to the cemetery website they are open during the summer and apparently have a good record of the various burials over the years. I'd be happy to offer reimbursement for any expenses, and even pay for a snack at the local fried noodle stand. Drop me a PM if you might be able to help. Thanks, FireMedals
    5. Paul, You can contact the NFBA (they have a website for a phone number). They will provide you with a copy of the medal roll if you give them the name and the number on the medal. (There is a number on the rim...right??) They do charge a small fee. In addition to what you know, you will find out the date he qualified for the award. Occasionally there is information on his address, or other extraneous stuff, but not usually. Doyle would have received a bronze medal for his five years service, and they might be able to get you the number of that one and his date of award. The medals were issued as requests came in, and there are no relationships between the numbers on the bronze and silver awards. Good luck. They have always been very helpful to me, even requests for sending the information to the US. FireMedals
    6. Valgor, Not American of any era. FireMedals
    7. Just type in Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffalo in a search engine. FireMedals
    8. Dave, The Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffalo was founded in 1822, was open to any male, and eventually had lodges in many parts of the Empire. There is a lot of information on the web, so I would suggest a quick search there. As far as medal #2, if the WM says it's not Masonic, I can't disagree (can get in trouble for that ). Good luck FireMedals
    9. "...the last ribbon could also be from Hessen-Nassau's provincial Feuerwehr--..." Can't say I've seen it on a feuerwehr award, but it's possible, however, I think there is a Nassau Civil and Military Cross of Merit that has a similar ribbon. FireMedals
    10. Sorry for the multiple posts. I hit a wrong key somewhere. I just received this nice Imperial era German Fireman's Association 30 year service medal. I've never seen one quite like it. Unfortunately no identification except for the association initials " I N O F U V ", and the nice coat of arms. I can't reference to CofA to a German state, and I'm assuming it is for a particular city or region. Any help would be appreciated. FireMedals
    11. Kvart, Your medal naming looks very well done. The listing in the Medals Yearbook usually mentions if the medals were issued named or not, and there is no indication of official naming in the listing in my 1999 edition. That doesn't mean they weren't. Perhaps a more knowledgeable member can clear that up. Nice medal. As a collector of fire and emergency services medals, I don't seem to come across these too often. Thanks for posting it. FireMedals
    12. Kvart, According to an old copy of the Medals Yearbook, this award was instituted on5 July 1996, for ambulance services in England and Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, and the Channel Islands. There are two reverse designs, one with the emblem of the Ambulance Services of the UK, and the second with the emblem of Scotland. The Scottish is the rarer of the two. Both full and part-time members of the Services are eligible provided they are employed on emergency duties. Service prior to 1974 in ambulance services provided by local authorities counts. For paramedics and technicians the qualifying period is 20 years. For ambulance officers and other management grades, at least 7 of their 20 years' service must have been spent on emergence duties. It doesn't appear to heve been named when issued. FireMedals
    13. Kevin, Thanks for the information. That's what I suspected when I couldn't find any reference elsewhere. Regards, FireMedals
    14. I am trying to find out if Poland issued any service award specificially for the military personnel who served in the United Nations forces in Lebanon. I know they would have received the UNIFIL Medal, but I can't find any reference to any award or recognition with a Polish medal. Does such an award exist? I'd appreciate any information anyone can provide. Thanks, FireMedals
    15. Thank you gentlemen for taking the time to respond. I appreciate the information. FireMedals

    17. Sword 2-5 It looks like the owner scratched his initials into the plate on the side, but they are to poorly done to read.
