The Cross of 2nd class is a silver plaque, with the cross in the center, and is worn on the left side of the chest, without other distinction. In the 3rd class the plaque is gold, and larger. The fourth class or Grand Cross insignia had a wide ribbon sashwith a pendant 1st cross. In addition they used the third class plate with the rectangle for the silver inscription
The one he wears may be second class, but on the opposite side to the regulation
Thank you Antonio. We must assume it's the 2nd Class, because we have no proof he was ever awarded the 3rd Class or Grand Cross.

Here is a photo of Konteradmiral z.V. Wilhelm Rhein (close-up from my collection). I think the ribbon on his lapel is the ribbon of the HOH3x he was awarded on 2 November 1918. Can anyone confirm? The only other ribbon that was worn this way was the Spange zum EK2, but I don't think that's what Rhein is wearing because the device of the Spange was much larger and it would be clearly visible even on a photo of this quality.

Hello, I found this photo of Leopold Bürkner wearing the Breast Star of the Spanish Order of Naval Merit. Can someone tell me which class it is? The person who posted the photo claims it's the Grand Cross. But the only info I have says he was awarded the Spanish Order of Naval Merit 2nd Class with White Decoration on 28 February 1935. This class also had a Breast Star (like the Grand Cross and the 3rd Class).
Thanks!

Hi Karlo,
I don't think he is Wilhelm von Haxthausen. That leaves Hubert von Rebeur-Paschwitz and Theoder Eschenburg. On balance, I would tend towards Admiral Eschenburg. Nikolaus Graf zu Dohna-Schlodien did perform duty as a Flügel-Adjutant during the Kaiser's exile but number 2 does not appear to be him. Freiherr von Paleske seems more likely.
Regards
Glenn
Thank you Glenn!
Here is another photo of Theodor Eschenburg. What is the award above the EK1? Could it be a Stahlhelm Bund award?

March 25, 1942 is the right answer. Matikkala also states this.
The Führer's Adjutant General Rudolf Schmundt was awarded on June 4, 1942.

Awarded in 1918 I believe.
May 19, 1918 is the right answer.
I wish I had time to give all the right answers
