I brought this into my collection recently. It seems they had a bit of a hard life as all of the pieces show considerable wear. I just could not pass on the chain!

Claudio! It does look Swedish. I had limited my search to the countries that were represented on the bar. This one is a mystery to me. Too bad if it is a second bar of a set. 

Here is a bar that I really have taken a liking to. I think it is the purest Red Cross bar I have seen. Japan, Spain and Portugal are a nice touch!

Anyone recognize the mounting style? 

I wonder if the last two were given in relation to the Spanish civil war? Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated.

Amazing what pops up when you dig deep and get lucky! I’ve noticed a couple items posted by you that show you know exactly how hard you have to look to find these treasures.

Look at the guy in the center. Is #5 on the bar a Hindenburg Cross?

I’ve looked at that bar a couple of times. The Saxon medal could be issued without the swords. The long service medal or lack of a higher one bothers me. The price is too steep for me also.

Does this mean you are collecting again?

I saw a two place bar that had it. This is really out of my typical collecting interest but I realize that very few of these were ever mounted in groups and decided to add it.

Round 3. The top of the 3 is not a straight line. Bought mine accidentally on a medal bar.

Actually, I’m pretty sure DK is the 25 year Long Service.

Can anyone make sense of the Turkish nomenclature? It doesn’t follow the German Rank Lists.

So much great information here on this man. While recently looking at pictures of a friends collection I found another piece of his!!! It took some time to secure it but my friend wanted the pieces reunited and I was happy to have the opportunity. So, to thank those that looked at this thread or commented - I give you one more piece of the grouping that is now here with me.

Very nice bar. The last medal is the FAM and it is on the noncombatant ribbon. Not too easy to find. To me the fifth medal has been swapped. It could be a pre 1905 Bavarian MVO which will run you some decent money to replace. There was also a Bavarian fireman long service cross given on this ribbon but that doesn’t fit the bar.

WW1 cross in a WW2 box. Very nice.

Is there a visible seam around the outside of this? The surface is quite pitted and frankly this medal would concern me as far as originality goes. Look at the pits at 9 o'clock on the obverse near the rim. I'm not comfortable with this medal based on the photos.

Thank you for the extra details. I did check the casualty roll and didn't find him so assumed he survived. Where did you get the overseas date? 

As an Imperial German collector, I often turn up other material while on the hunt. Mostly "stuff" but every once in a while I find something nice. I purchased this group from an Estate Sale owner. He had a few items I purchased but this is the nicest.

I have done some research on this and see he is Scottish in the 1/2 Highland Field Ambulance and the MM was after the 1917 renumbering. What I don't understand was that a Territorial Force soldier got a MM in France. I though T.F. people stayed at home in the UK? Did he volunteer to go over or is my assumption on T.F. incorrect? Also, in general are these medical groups considered more desirable or less desirable than combatant groups? Can a citation be found for the MM?

This was really a surprise find for me and I am enjoying it. Still wish the Germans would have named their medals.

So you bought the grouping! Nice! I wouldn't necessarily say it was made to go under another order. Somewhere on here the should be a picture of one of my Johanniters mounted the same way and a picture of it in wear. This was done to have the order out from under the collar.

Not it one stop! This is about 20 years with a few in there when I didn't collect. Only the Finnish one is new to the collection and I have waited about 15 years to get it!
