Gentlemen, Carl Philipp August Graf von Schlieffen (1798–1845), the 2nd commander of the Garde-Unter-Officier-Compagnie, died relatively young in 1845 in Vives-Eaux near Melun, France, but I just cannot find out how. I found a French newspaper article (third column), but my Gymnasium French has long gone been forgotten. Does one of you Gentlemen read French? If yes, does the article in any way report why Graf von Schlieffen was in France and how he died? Maybe an accident? Thank you! Here are the decorations I have for him:
Iron Cross (1813), 2nd Class

That's too bad, Herman, I was hoping for a date. NN2 can be seen for the first time in the Rangliste 1893, so maybe 1891 or 1892.

Thanks again, Johan! Do your documents say Oberstleutnant? He was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel on 24 December 1888 ... unless I got something wrong.
Many Greetings

The second to last is a Reuss Honour Cross 3rd Class. I think you're right about the last medal. The medal between the EK1 and Baltenkreuz looks like a Merit Medal of Sachsen-Coburg-Gotha or one of the Duchies, with the sword clasp. BTW i noticed recently that an award doc for the PLM allegedly to Jacobs is being offered on fleabay, signed by von Kanitz, along with other items, including a banged up PLM.
Thank you! Maybe the Allgemeines Ehrenzeichen (Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach)?!

What are the two medals to the far right? Russian? The last one possibly the Erinnerungsmedaille (Sankt-Georgs-Medaille) der Deutsch-Russischen Westarmee 1919? What is the medal below between EK I and Baltenkreuz? Thanks!

Hello, Dave, thanks for the info, as I see he died in Hamburg 1972 (which was new to me) and was buried in Itzehoe. Do you know why this source has a death date of 26 April 1961? His daughter Dr. Ursula Lindig (6.11.1923 - 12.4.2015) was also buried in Itzehoe.
Greetings
Andreas

Hello, Alex, the "Ehrenpreis" from 1918, could that be the Honour Goblet for the Victor in Aerial Combat (Ehrenbecher für den Sieger im Luftkampf) or rather the Ehrenpreis der Marineflieger? Thanks! Is it right, that Gerhard Erich Siegfried Hubrich became a Major of the Luftwaffe in WWII? Any other decorations outside of the clasps to the EK II and I?
Many greetings
Andreas

Hello, Stephan!
Was your mother Marion (b. 12 June 1939 in Hamburg) his daughter (out of wedlock) or adopted / step-daughter? I read somewehre, that she was born a "Heberle", mother Renate Heberle (married Gerhard(t) on 8 May 1943), younger sister Karin Heberle (b. 14 August 1941 in Konigstein).
Thank you

Thank you! About my wrong wording for BMV3⚔ ... this was also before 1906 (1900 to 1905) the Officer's Cross, but as of 1906 it was shortened BMV.O⚔ ... because of the swords same class ... thanks for pointing this out!

That's great, thank you! By the way, many thanks for Daniel's great list ... what absolutely great work! I finally found him, although written Loringhofen.

Gentlemen, can anyone give me any information on WWI veteran Karl Kapp (exact birth/death date, which university, Einjährig-Freiwilliger?, last rank, decorations), who was severly wounded 1916, entered the consular service, was stationed in Constantinople, Budapest and Damascus during the rest of the war (Turkish decorations?) and was later diplomat, among other places in Jerusalem, Bombay, Cleveland, Sofia. Thank you! Picture: Kapp (with Henry Ford and Fritz Hailer in 1938) on the right (Reserveoffizier??? EK II?).

Thanks, gentlemen. Daniel, if you find some time, please show us the picture. Since 1861, receiving the Black Eagle Order always meant receiving the Großkreuz of the RAO, do I remember that right? At least until 1914, so why not 1914 to 1918 ... hmmm ... please let me know!

Not sure if these were actually awarded during the war, or if he would have received it afterward, which, of course, he didn't live to...
His knight's cross IInd class was awarded on May 18, 1903 (see here), his knight's cross IInd class with oak leaves on October 24, 1905 (see here) and finally, his knight's cross Ist class with swords on January 5, 1915 (see here). He would wear the higher peacetime award alongside his war decoration on the medal bar...
Thanks so much! I always wondered why he received so many decorations in WWI, now I know he was adjutant of the (Bavarian) 6th Army, later leader/commander of the Jäger-Regiment Nr. 5. He was also named for extraordinary bravery and gallantry on the plaques of honor (Ehrentafel XXXXIV) in the Hall of Fame of the Berlin Arsenal (Ruhmeshalle des Zeughauses).

Thank you, gentlemen, I was hoping to find a reason to his death, but we probably never will. About the Johanniterorden (Rechtsritter), I got the information here (Gothaisches Genealogisches Taschenbuch der Gräflichen Häuser, 1922, p. 848).
