      Thanks for your answer, Graf.

I have two books of Bulgarian decorations.

      -Bulgarian Badges (Dietrich Riemer)
-Bulgaria Orders and medals (Todor Petrov)

In Petrov's book, there is not even a photo of the Military Merit Order VI class. Little information. I know the Ilieff´s page, very interesting.

      Best regards

Book by Professor Pavlov is considered the best reference on Bulgarian awards

    2. Wow, excellent bar and minis group!

I puzzled by the minis group. I think it was to a British medical officer for merits during WWI. Red Cross medal bars say 'Balkan Allies War 1915 - Bulgaria', however Bulgaria was not part of Allies(Serbia, Russia, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Belgium and the US), it actually fought against Allies on the side of Central Powers (Austria-Hungary, Germany, Bulgaria and the Ottoman Empire).

How come this British officer received war time awards from the enemy?

    3. I just read those 2 posts and it makes sense: Russian immigrants, society of Konstantin - that's what K stands for and crown is for him being a nobility. I just don't understand why they used design of Bulgarian order for this society.

BTW, this Mr Goodwin that is mentioned by 922F - eMedals currently has his collection and they've been selling items from it for some time.

Graf, I found something interesting - a star with identical cross and the same crowned K monogram was offered  by Liverpool Medals in the past.

      Their description:

'0rder of Cyril and methodius Grand Cross breast star , very unusual star the centre in the form of
the sash badge with crowned K in centre, excellent qaulity and condition, rare'

It's definitely a copy even though the seller wrote: "Sale item from the pictures, I guarantee that it is genuine."
Officers who completed the Higher School of Military Academy (Виша школа Војне академије) received the badge and diploma. According to the Law on Military Academy (Закон о устројству Војне Академије) they had to pay some tax, but I doubt its amount had anything to do with the production material so I'm not buying the "poor students" story.

This makes sense, no one was stuck with a crappy badge because you were poor.

    6. I recall reading somewhere that there were literally just couple of these badges awarded (around 2-3). It had to be such low number, think about it - capturing a flag in the battlefield was big deal and extremely rare event.

To me the quality of your badge looks too crude and unacceptable for such honorable and rare award. Look at Bulgarian badges from that period, even common badges were of high quality. What you are showing us is just not on par with the craftsmanship of that era.

Sorry to tell you, but your badge does not look promising at all...

Just made a small online search )))

      P. Telge - Paul Telge (1846-1909), the German jeweler and goldsmith from Berlin (but I am not sure that he had an own mint firm to produce decorations in large numbers, he was just a court jeweler and medal designer).

      B. Meyer - Bernhard Heinrich Mayer (1843-1911), the German engraver and founder of the mint firm B.H. Mayer Kunstprägeanstalt in Pforzheim.

      G. Sheid - Georg Adam Scheid (1838-1921), the German-Austrian jeweler and founder of the large jewelry and silver decoration company G.A. Scheid in Vienna.

As for Yugenen Brothers & Co. - the transliteration is completelly wrong, it is hard to understand who they are...:wacky: Most probably - Fritz Huguenin, the Swiss engraver and founder (together with his brother Albert Huguenin) of the watch-case design and mint company Huguenin Frères et Cie SA in Le Locle.

The book had this info in Bulgarian, so transcription is not fully accurate.

Yugenen Brothers & Co is most likely Huguenin
