Sterling Seaforth Highlanders Badge
USN replied to USN's topic in Great Britain: Militaria: Badges, Uniforms & Equipment
I would definitely agree to the private purchase part just because of the Birks sterling mark on the back. However I would think it's too small to be a cap badge. -
Hello everyone, I recently acquired this Birks marked Seaforth Highlanders badge and am having a hard time dating it. I can't seem to find any versions of the badge that match this one, specifically with how the stags head is designed. Is this due to the dye that Birks would have used or because it's an older style? Any help would be appreciated. Many Thanks, Will

North Staffordshire dress uniform
USN replied to USN's topic in Great Britain: Militaria: Badges, Uniforms & Equipment
Good morning gentlemen, I was able to make some decent progress on the removal of the glue on the shoulders, I have cleared the left one but it seems like they used super glue on the right shoulder instead of hot glue so I will need to get another solvent. It doesn't show in the photos as well but unfortunately there is some staining which I may try to see if a dry cleaner can get it out. -
MK1 Cruise visor
USN replied to USN's topic in Great Britain: Militaria: Badges, Uniforms & Equipment
Well the chains were meant to be a splinter guard, while they don't deflect a round going straight at your face they were meant to prevent small splinters from blinding the user which is why they were more popular for people in static positions such as machine gunners, tankers and snipers. I believe I read an article that stated that they were less popular among the infantry units because of the obscured vision and they felt as though the visor got in the way. -
Good Evening Gentlemen, I just wanted to share some photos of my MK1 cruise visor brodie helmet that I've had for some time now. It appears to have gotten a thick coat of black/ dark green paint at some point and is unfortunately missing the liner but it's a rare piece non the less. I hope you all enjoy! Many Thanks, USN

I was able to make an account but no luck on locating his awards unfortunately. It is a shame to imagine they ended up in a dump somewhere. -

That makes sense, I don't have the greatest photo of the headpiece I was able to acquire but this is it. There doesn't appear to be any backing. -

Unfortunately I am unable to make an account at the moment, I'm currently deployed and using ships wifi services so I don't think the website trusts my connection. -

I was able to find a small snippet from a newspaper article likely made shortly after his death. Still working on the tunic itself. -

Is there any particular difference/ rhyme or reason to the style of headgear worn? Like rank, date or specialty? -

Very nice piece! I still have yet to find any suitable collar brass unfortunately. But I do was able to locate what i believe to be the proper headgear, it is a narrow black cap with the appropriate glasgow light infantry badge and if I recall correctly a red pom ontop? -

Yes, the buttons are ww1 period. -
Good afternoon gentlemen, I have recently came across a boxed medal to Joseph J. Chromicz, I have had no luck in finding any specifics on him except that he was a corporal in the polish army, was captured and then escaped to fight with the British in Iraq, Palestine and Italy. I was hoping someone could help me track down his unit or any further information.

Would the collar brass for this unit be the same exact ones as the black watch? -

Hello everyone, I finally have the uniform in hand and have included photos of holes in the uniform where metal collar/ shoulder insignia once were, as well as where the tailors label used to sit in the collar and the 9th highland light infantry buttons. -
Good evening everyone, I was wondering if anyoneone had some items from the 9th highland light infantry regiment, glasgow highlanders that they could share? I've recently come across an officers uniform from that unit and am having a hard time finding any comparable examples anywhere, I will post photos when I have it in hand but would just like to get a jump on the research. Many Thanks, Will

I don't suppose anyone has seen or knows of the location of any of Mr. Ridgways medals do they? Maybe they've popped up an online auction at some point or they're tucked away in a collection? -
That is strange, but it wouldn't be the first time a military recorded something incorrectly. It's also hard to tell what the original message was considering much of the original card is lost to time. They could have been discussing the possibility of him becoming a lieutenant or perhaps it was just recorded incorrectly in the books.

Good morning gentlemen, I was lucky enough to have come across a nice photo postcard of an unteroffizier from the reserve garde pioneer regiments flammenwerferzug and just wanted to share. It looks like it was at one point cut down to fit a picture frame, it unfortunately is missing alot of information but does feature a nice shot of the skull on the left cuff and is addressed directly to the flame thrower unit. As always comments and opinions are welcome! Many Thanks, Will

Inniskilling Fusiliers cuff rank tunic
USN replied to USN's topic in Great Britain: Militaria: Badges, Uniforms & Equipment
That would make perfect sense honestly, this may be a bit of a stretch but to me it makes even more sense seeing as how this was an Irish regiment and to my knowledge most were not as well off as their English counterparts. If this is correct then this would also make it a fairly early example of something coming from the Aldershot depot. Your information is always appreciated, we spoke previously about a dress uniform from the North Staffordshire Regiment and you were equally helpful there as well! -
Inniskilling Fusiliers cuff rank tunic
USN replied to USN's topic in Great Britain: Militaria: Badges, Uniforms & Equipment
What would the A signify then? It doesn't appear to be specific to a tailor seeing as how his trousers have the mark but are not from the same tailor. Is it possibly some kind of mark from a depot showing the tunic was turned in and reworked? This could also explain the different cuff ranks. A lieutenant was killed and the tunic was sent through and reissued to a captain who added the proper rank insignia? I'm just spitballing some ideas.
