    1. Thanks to all of you, gentleman.

I really hope we are right, but there are some points I want to discuss:

1.) Shame on me, I stopped screening the W?rttemberg Staatshandbuch 1914, when I found Wanner, so I have to complete the work next time to be shure.

2.) Shouldn?t it be a civilian "Frackspange" then this kind of a bar, normally worn by officers?

3.) Is there any chance to find Wanner in a list of some of the other decorations?

4.) Are there any other sources, then the W?rttemberg Staatshandbuch and the Wer ist?s to search for Wanner?

5.) No Prussian decoration in 1914 and then 5 in the next 4 years - isn?t that to much?

      With regards, Komtur.

    2. Hallo Forumites,

I was asked by another collector to show this bar here in the GMIC. He is a serious collector and author of order articles and books. The bar was shown twice without success in the German forum SDA.

By any reason he believes, it could be a W?rttemberg Oberstabsarzt.

Btw. the only not German decoration is a Belgium Order of the Crown knight cross.

      With regards, Komtur.

    3. Hallo Micha,

unfortunately no luck with the "Stammliste der Kaiser Wilhelms-Akademie f?r das milit?r?rztliche Bildungswesesn". That means he did his medical studies not there, may be on a civilien university. In the Ordensalmanach 1908/09 is also no Wittichen to be found. The oldest Prussian ranklist I?ve got is 1884 - no Wittichen :( .

Probably he was not a Sanit?tsoffizier, but a civilien medical docter serving behind the front in 1870/71 without a military rank or with a non officers rank. Then it will be difficult to find something.

Can you show us this bar, please

      With regards, Komtur.

    4. Rick, Komtur,

Fritz Vieth was the former 3. Lothringisches Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 135 Vieth (Hptm 1.10.13 B50b) and still in that rank in the 1919 Dienstaltersliste. Magdeburgisches J?ger-Bataillon Nr. 4 Leutnant Vieth was promoted to Oberleutnant with a Patent of 27.1.15 J52i and was still in that rank in the 1919 Dienstaltersliste.

      Regards

      Glenn

Sorry, there were other awarding documents in that group, I forgot to mention:

1.) Verwundeten-Abzeichen in Schwarz f?r Hauptmann Vieth IR 135 (date not to read)

      2.) Braunschweig Kriegsverdienstkreuz 2. Klasse f?r Hauptmann und Kompanief?hrer Fritz Vieth Res.-IR 98 (?) vom 28.6.1918

3.) Braunschweig Kriegsverdienstkreuz 1. Klasse f?r Hauptmann Fritz Vieth IR 459 vom 8.8.1918

4.) Braunschweig Bew?hrungsabzeichen zum Kriegsverdienstkreuz Hauptmann Fritz Vieth IR 459 vom 26.9.1918

The scans on Ebay were bad and before I was able to bid, the document group was canceled

      With regards, Komtur.

    5. Thank you very much Komtur!!! it is a nice document, unfortunately I can't read anything of the text.

    6. Hi Komtur,

char. Generalleutnant Hans v. Feldmann, born 7 November 1868 in Berlin, died 10 July 1940 in Hannover. He retired as the State Secretary in the War Ministry on 7 April 1922 with the Charakter of Generalleutnant. Strangely, he appears to wear the rank of a General der Infanterie.

      Regards

      Glenn

Hm, shame on me  , I was wrong with the rank insignia, then the second general must be a Generalleutnant. May be I was wrong with the signature too??? Does it really mean "Feldmann". Any other idea for interpretation of this S?tterlin writing?

      Thanks and regards, Komtur.

    7. I LOVE the war merit cross one- 1916-18 huh?

      Hello Ulsterman,

that ribbon-question in this case is quite difficult. In the statuts of the Honor Decoration for the XXV anniversery it is spoken of orders, not decorations. Therefore I am shure, that very rare example with that special ribbon you mentioned is representing a Crown Order (4th or 3rd class) with memory ribbon ("am Erinnerungsband") awarded 1870/71 for merits behind the front. This "Erinnerungsband" is the same later used for the war merit cross.

      With regards, Komtur.

    8. Hello Humberto,

this questions were discussed a few weeks ago in the similar German forum "Sammlergemeinschaft Deutscher Auszeichnungen":

It was awarded to persons close to the jubilee couple, so it was not a common award. It was given also to 119 veterans belonging 25 years before to the 2nd company of the 1st Garde-Regiment zu Fu?, because that company was led by prince Wilhelm, the later Kaiser Wilhelm II. The figure XXV with a myrtle wreath around in silver lays on the ribbon of the last awarded Prussion order. If the person got no Prussion order before, the ribbon was white. The 119 veterans got the award on the ribbon of the Allgemeines Ehrenzeichen (see picture below). The awarding document was signed personally by the Kaiser.

      with regards, Komtur.
