Well, yes very annoying and pointlessly destructive, it is clear that their interest is in making as much money as is possible by auctioning/selling individually, not interested in collecting or history, very common I suspect, just like people who break up medal groups

I remember a few discussions about these reinforcing plates and always
with the same conclusions. Some say repair, some say original. I always believed
them to be repairs but through the years I've changed my mind on that.
Like you guys, I have saved a few images of crosses (1100 so far) to make my own datebase
of known maker examples and of coarse, no regards to who's images they are so please don't
be alarmed if someday you come across a thread where I might reference one of your crosses.
I have long argued with the assumption that these are repairs, true, like Chris has said, repairs were done like this, but from the examples I've shown, every "repair" is virtually identical, on identical pieces, my example is in mint condition, with case which I suspect it never left, why repair an unused medal?

Hi Alex,
Here are two sites for the prussian officers cross and the enlisted cross.
Antique Photos - Long Service Award for Officers (antique-photos.com)
Dienstauszeichnung 1.Klasse 1913 für 15 Jahre (ehrenzeichen-orden.de)
To add to the confusion, the confusion the hessian and prussian 15 year cross are very similar.
Dienstauszeichnung 1. Klasse für 15 Jahre 1913 (ehrenzeichen-orden.de)
regards,
chuck
Hi thanks for the links interesting information, my 25 year award is the later type with the pebbled finish, I can see the confusion between the prussian and Hessian 15 year awards, I'll remember that

Hi Wild Card, thanks an amazing looking cross, never seen it before, I have an 1870 sanitatsverdienstkreuz in my collection, pretty boring compared to this though
Regards alex?

Yes, of course. For safety reasons (I'm sure that you understand), this cross does not live here at home. I am making arrangements for a visit so that I can take aa couple of pictures of it which I will post when I get them.
Meanwhile, here is another Bavarian case, with its resident which I hope you enjoy.
OK Thanks, One word... Superb example
