    1. Also, if anyone has any old photographs of people wearing these awards, that would be wonderful as well!
    2. Hi everyone, I have become more and more interested in the early civilian long service awards, especially the various long service awards of the fire brigades / fire fighters. Please show me what you all have! I'll start with the two that I have..... Thanks!! Jason ---------------------------------- Württemberg Fire Service Award for 25 Years' Service
    3. Hi everyone, I am looking at possibly purchasing this medal, but I am not 100% certain as to its authenticity. Take a look at it and let me know what you think… I have asked the seller to see if it is magnetic or not, but I haven't received a reply yet. Thanks a bunch! Jason
    4. I love the awards from the Napoleonic Wars, but I have never seen them mounted on any medal bars. When I come across them, they are usually sans-ribbon, or just strung upon a replacement ribbon. If anyone has any medal bars from that era, I would love to see some photos of them! Thanks a bunch! Jason
    5. Thanks everyone! Not as fancy as some groups that others of you have, but I enjoy them! I myself am especially fond of the older (pre-WWI) groups. One thing I had decided to do, when I focused my interest on the German part of my Imperial medals collecting, was only deal with those items that were parade/court mounted. It makes things a little more difficult when trying to add to my collection, but to me they feel more "historic" then non-mounted medals, or just medals with a ribbon stuck on a ring. Jason
    6. Thank you! I found these great cases at Michael's hobby stores (for those of you who are familiar with them), that are actually deep shadow boxes (that way the medals can swing freely when hung on the wall, and don't get smashed by the glass). I remove the backs (which are a thin but sturdy Styrofoam under a wooden backing), wrap the Styrofoam in faux black velvet I find out local fabric shops, and then pin the bars through the Styrofoam. The pins can't be clasped back together to the clasp, so to keep them from flopping around; I sew the clasp down to the Styrofoam mount by running a few strands of thread behind the medals and tie down the loose clasp end. The back doesn't look too pretty, but when you put everything back together in the case, and place the wood backing on it, you can't see a thing. It takes a few hours to do up a case, and since it takes some time and I don’t like removing the back once everything is in place, I only put together one when I have enough medals to fully complete the case. 7. Didn't even think to do that!! Yep, it's iron! Thank you for the information on the mark, too!!! Jason
    8. Hi everyone, Just got back from the 'Show of Shows' in Louisville, Kentucky this afternoon, and boy was I amazed! Too bad I couldn't go on a shopping spree as I would have liked! I did pick up a nice, simple trio bar that contains a Baden Silver Merit Medal. My question is, upon looking the medals over very carefully, I noticed that the merit medal has what appears to be a very small (for lack of a better description) bee marked on the bottom edge. It is the silvered bronze version, and not the late war zinc version, so I am guessing this is the mark for bronze. Am I guessing correctly? Thanks! Jason
    9. Hi everyone, I just received my newest medal bar today, and the Bavarian Militär Verdienst Order, 4th. Class with Swords is marked the following way on the reverse: - On the medal = "950 J. L." - On the Swords = "J. L. 900" I know the number is for the silver content, but what does the "J. L." stand for (which maker)? Thank you! Jason
