Hi Everyone!
Quick question about the Prussian Landwehr during WWI. I would have assumed that all of them would have been in combat during WWI, but I may be wrong. The reason I ask is I came upon this bar and I was wondering if it had the correct Cross of Honor of the World War? It is very difficult to tell if it is a next-of-kin or non-combatant's metal from the photo, but the ribbon is for a combatant's medal. What does anyone think?
Thanks!

BTW, Jacquie, the seller, didn't want to break up the group, but the consignor insisted. I had a nice correspondence with her and she feels the way we do about medallic diaspora.
Tom,
Congrats as well! I saw the other sale as well, but I only collect medal bars, so I wasn't interested in them that much. I am currious as to what your bar is for? I am not familiar with too many veterans medals....

And this one is on the way, and should be here tomorrow or Friday. The medals were arranged in the wrong order on the bar, so I have edited the photos so they are now correct (I will post actual updated photos when it arrives).
In everyones opinion, would you leave the damaged ribbon on the end alone, or would you somehow try to repair it?
Thanks!

I hope the XXIV Years service cross is the lovely dark chocolate bronze pre-1906 type and not the gold finished M1906. The old ones are quite hard to find and are often ruined by people scrubbing off the original chocolate patina.
Just got the set yesterday. Here she is!

Yes, mine is really dark chocolate bronze. Sure wish I could post a photo, but the image gallery isn't working for me. None of the buttons to upload the photo show up, and if I try, it says there is an unknown error.

Yes, the steel medal on a combatant's ribbon.
I too have seen it several times, but I was wondering if it was actually "correct." From the statements on the other forum, it appears that steel medals were actually intended to be awarded on combatant ribbons to some individuals.

Hi Everyone!
I recently purchased a Bavarian pre-WWI bar, and one of the medals is the steel Franco-Prussian War medal on a combatant's ribbon. I was going to replace this medal with a bronze (combatant's) medal, but I was reading a very interesting thread on another forum website:
Combatant vs. Non-Combatant Ribbon Discussion
With that in mind, has anyone else seen this, and is this in fact true? I have been trying to load a photograph of my bar into my photo album here, but have not been able to post anything new. The rest of the medals on the bar are as follows (from left to right):
- Steel Franco-Prussian War medal on combatant's ribbon
- Bavarian bronze Army Commemorative Award from 1866
- Bavarian bronze 24 Year Long Service Cross
- Wilhelm I Centenary medal
Thank you,
Jason

Hello everyone!
I have been told that the War Commemorative Medal 1870-71 was sometimes issued as a replacement, etc., and that it would not have been rim impressed "From Captured Canon." Is this true, and does it make the medal any less valuable or historically accurate / interesting?
Thank you!

How many medal bars have we seen with the Iron Cross reversed back to front? Wrong, sure, but PERIOD wrong.I too have an EKII that is mounted 'backwards' on a Wurttemberg Trio...
Hello Everyone!
I have JUST started collecting Imperial German medals and happened upon this thread as I was researching my first German medal bar. I too have a W?rttemberg trio with the EKII reversed.
Does anyone know exactly why the Iron Cross was sometimes reversed?
Thank you for any information you can provide!

Excellent! Thank you all!

They are actually "dings" to the medal from what appears to be a sharp pointed object (possibly the points of another Star....).

Peter,
That is one part of the equation figured out! Thank you very much for the information!

Thanks!

I took some more photos tonight. These were taken outside under a cloudy sky with a flash.

Here are some more photos. No matter what I do, I can't get the color/focus/clarity all set in the same photo. Anyway, hope these will help some!!
