I picked up this what I thought was a run of the mill K?niggratz Cross on eBay a few years ago.

When I opened the package what to my wondering eyes should appear but this:

I don't think we have to wonder who the maker was.

GREAT PIECE TOM!!!!!!

Did you see the 4 bar set on ebay? 4 campaign medals for before 1870-superb. The seller stuck it in coins.

    "authenti-fi-cate"? :cheers::cheers:

By the way folks, that's a quasi-inside joke - regarding another Gottleib who purportedly has made a few German items.

The above item is genuine and rare.

This joke is so far over my head it has an air traffic controller involved. I think a lot of us could benefit if those in-the-know would get out the "paper and crayons".

The bar was out of my reach, but i did manage to snag this.

Another case of a split group, but maybe if one of us got the bar they can be reunited.

    sweet!!

I saw that too, but just broke my piggybank on an Ethiopian medal.

It is a wonderful bar. It makes you wonder why there's no 1870/71, or if it was worn in 1870 on the green fields of France.

We are much funnier in person, when cigars, cuisine, and alcohol are involved in regional get togethers. Most such things involve ancient, ancient history. Imagine dinosaurs laughing. :catjava:

Tom, that is just a 10X & :jumping: porcelain lapel bar.

I've never seen one that early-- what does the back look like?

Is that made in one piece, or is the button "sunk" into the "ribbons?"

What an incredibly fragile little jewel.

I broke another of my rules by posting before I have it in hand, but #50 is one piece.

And now for the rest of the story.

The package arrived today and the mini's as much a gem as I'd hoped. Yes, Rick, it's one piece and seems to be hand formed. Maybe this weekend I can unlimber my camera and get a shot of the area where the button joins the bar.
