Hi just to give some new life to this old thread I wonder how many MGSS units where there?
I got a copy of an old German document named "Maschinengewehr Scarftschutzen in Felde 1916-18"
in its the story about MGSS Abt 54.
I writes about MGSS nr 94,141 and 198 that formed MGSS Abt54 late 1916
The MGSS 54 Abt lost 76 KIA 133 Wounded and 70 POW during 1916-18 out of 840 Officers and NCO/privates
And I thought to show some pics of the MGSS Badge in wear from my collection.

Hallo, Is there anyone who knows how many RAO 1st class that was given before WW 1? <1910
The reason is that I just read a Swedish Ranglist from 1910 and found 3 Swedish Officers with
RAO 1st class and one with 1st class with brillianten.
Also found 1 2nd class stern + brillianten
1 2nd class stern
1 2nd class brillianten
and 9 more 2nd class RAOs and of course a lot of 3rd class and 4th class
I think the Swedish military had a lot of contact with Germany before 1WW.

Hi Christer,
there are 8 different documents, for NVA military and civilians, for civil defence etc.
"Urkunde f?r 25 Jahre Treue Dienste:
- and two other documents from 1990.
The marked document is yours, for civilians in the NVA, the Grenztruppen and the Zivilverteidigung.
The set is complete with a crystal vase; the "Genosse Studienrat" recieved in addition with the document and the vase 5,000 Mark.
Regards
Uwe
Aha !
Thanks Uwe, I learn something new everyday! Now I have to go looking for a crystal vase....

Thank you Graham, I have been collecting Russian, Mongolian, german , bulgarian and Finnish orders/medals and
always having nightmares trying to read certificates, and now a new world opens for me. wht didn?t I start collecting British medals 25 years ago
But even now when I can read the language I still confused, I understand Remounts was keeping/handling the horses used in A.S.C but what do a Starpper do? I can?t find the word in any lexicon.
And one more thing about the MIC , could he been awarded a Silver War Badge?
Thank everyone for your help to a novise collector
