    3. How many of the General Public would even know about the Knights Cross of the War Merit Cross - to the vast majority I am sure that the only one they would recognise as a Knights cross is that of the Iron Cross. Not sure if the program mentioned was meant to be historical Fact or a piece of fiction in which case it would only by a miniscule fraction of viewers who would note (or care) about this error. I think we could spend hours talking about the libertys that have been taken by the various film makers in depicting martial history Ralph

    8. Hi Rick, If you have not seen it check this out - Collection of KGL Medals sold in 2003 http://www.dnw.co.uk/medals/auctionarchive...9&action=Go
    9. His record of service can be dowloaded from The National Archives site http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documen...p;resultcount=1
    10. Rick, Amazed at what you found - Many thanks indeed for taking so much trouble in hunting through your archives and posting what you found. When I bought the medal I was told he was entitled to 9 Bars (according to info published in "Mullens" Roll of the MGS) but a search on the original roll showed 2 Henry Mullers of the 1st Hussars KGL , One a 9 bar recipient and my 3 bar recipient. Your efforts have proved without doubt that the 3 bar is correct and known in antiquity. It is, indeed, a small small world!! Ralph
    11. Rick, I have never taken too much notice of the prices in the MYB - there are far too many variables. In the 2009 MYB there is no remark about KGL MGSMs being worth less than others, only thatRegiments have some bearing on the value with 52nd,88th and 95th of Foot commanding a premium Ralph
    12. The NA will give you a quote for any work that needs doing or you can get a researcher to do the work for you if you cannot do it yourself. Have a look at their website - I find the entry www.pro.gov.uk the easiest to remember. There are other things you might find e.g. "service records" in series WO97 for the early years (upto 1873) normally for men awarded a pension. Ralph
    13. They are on microfilm at The National Archives, Kew. Sorted in Regimental Order etc - series WO 100 Ralph
    14. 3rd Part - showing his entry - Note there is more than 1 Henry Muller on the roll (Mine is #649 on roll)
    15. The edge is impressed Henry Muller 1st Hussars, K.G.L. Have not quite got the scanning capabilities of other - see if this works 1st Part - Preamble at the head of the roll
    16. MY only MGS - to Pte. Henry Mueller 1st Hussars KGL - on the roll under Name and present Rank "Capt. Hanv. Army" is shown which I assume means he carried on serving in the Hanoverian Army. Given that, might there be a file on him in the Hanoverian Archives - although with a name Henry (Heinrich) Mueeler it could be looking for a needle in a haystack?!.
    17. I have a group with the Roumanian Order of the Crown and my research led to the fact that he was NOT entitled. However, in the course of my research found following: Confidential Memo 5th Brigade RAF " 1. Please submit to this office by the first D.R. on the 6th instant nominations on the attached pro-forms for the Roumanian Decorations to British Officers an other ranks in accordance with the allotment shown on the attached list. 2. The allotment is based on the Composition of the Forces on the cessation of hostilities. 3. An Officer or other rank who has already received a foreign decoration on the nomination of the Field Marshall Comander-in-Chief should not again be recommended. 4. With regard to those decorations which are for acts of bravery ,the particualr act or acts of bravery should be stated. 5. Although an allotment is given it should not be taken for granted that approval will be given to all recommendations submitted. amongst others this particular unit submitted Capt. A Mc.C. Wilson (my man) H.L.I attached RAF with following recommendation: This officer's work as Adjutant of my Balloon wing covering a period of 6 months has been of the highest class. He is at all time most concientious and devoted to duty. During times of particular stress he has not spared himself, even when most overburdened. He had not connection with Roumania, did'nt serve with any unit that went there etc.etc whcih I think does give some credence that the awards were distributed by the Allied Command without taking e.g.Roumanian service into account. Mc,C Wilson was subsequently awarded a MBE (Military) Ralph
    18. Unfortunately have not mastered the art of close up macro shots so no picture of the naming available.
    19. All awards of the DSO to British and Commonwealth Recipients were published in the London Gazette which is searchable on line. There are recommendations for Army awards searchable on line at the following site http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documen...amp;queryType=1 Ralph
    20. From "Courage and Service" (J Blatherwick and H. Halliday) MERCIER, FS Joseph Pierre Guy (Can 2509) - British Empire Medal - No.2 Release Centre - Award effective 13 June 1946 as per Canada Gazette of that date and AFRO 660/46 dated 5 July 1946. Flight Sergeant Mercier has shown outstanding ability in handling the transient personnel of this unit. He has a very high sense of duty and has given his best at all times in the interests of the Service. He has been an excellent example to the rest of the staff of the Release Centre and has contributed a great deal to the overall efficiency of this unit.
    21. Hi Peter, ALL British Decorations come cased and Pin mounted. During WW2 the awards came in cardboard boxes rather than in a case but even then they were pin mounted. Certain decorations e.g. IDSM/DSO/Volunteer Decoration even have the pin as an integeral part of the award i.e. the top clasp always has the pin. Ralph
    22. Case appears to be that of a British Imperial Service medal 1920-1939 era.
