Hi,
A lot of my medals and orders I have framed come from documented groupings. In this thread, I will post scans of these books

My gut reaction would be that this is a parts group. Friendship of Peoples is just over the top, and foreign awards are almost always worn separately under Soviet ones.
The October Revolution dates circa 1975, and I just have never seen ANY one of these researched, though they show up with their usual solo-award Orders Books-- and no clue as to recipient's status. As yet another barley harvest to Spetsnaz valor Orders, not a clue!
(Wupsies-- Red Banner #s parargraph removed... see below. Brain malfunction!!!)
I was amazed that research WAS possible on my 1979 Red Star to a divisional commander in Afghanistan--
I have an interesting grouping of these medals(order of friendship being one of the orders) belonging to one person. I will scan the book and post it to another thread.
Best regards

What are those going for now? Mine did not come with a box though. Did they issue it with a citation paper?

Very nice collection Darrell. My favorite medal of them all is the Belgrade Medal(I actually have two. One of them is part of a documented grouping). I bet that you are excited about getting yours.
A lot of the people who received this medal did not fare so well after the war. The way I understand it is that most of the awardees were partisans who Stalin sent to Siberia. Talk about a slap to the face by a "thankful" government.

Russian black market, maybe!
Seriously,
I dont know if they are obtainable as I would think that their removal would be part of the de-mil/deactivation process. Even if the primers are not live.
I would check with your local law enforcement before I altered these rounds in any way.
By the way, I really like how they are so well marked! Nice set! Do you have any other ordinance?
Best regards

Thank you Nick,
I went ahead and wrote the following letter to the company...
Good Evening.
The reason I am writing you is in reference to a Lifesaving medal that you wrote a COA for. This specific medal is the topic on the following link:
http://www.wehrmacht-awards.com/forums/sho...ad.php?t=116835
I am thinking of purchasing this medal from the gentleman who you wrote the COA for, but I do have a couple of questions.
1. I thought that the Lifesaving medal only came in two variations... The solid silver version with the half moon, silver purity code, and etc along the rim. The second varitaion I have is the silver plated zinc or tombac(later war). Where did this third variation come from?
2. How common are these in regards to the other two variations.
I appreciate any light you can shed on this for me!
Warmest regards

Thank you, Dave, for the clarification. That looks like an awesome book. Is it the mainstay for WW1 uniform collectors?
Thank you again

Thank you all for starting this interesting thread and for your help on mt set. I do have one question. What does the purplish waffenfarbe mean... if anything at all?

Surprisingly these are still fairly cheap. They are EXTREMELY hard to find. The "real" ones not made in 1957.
What is the difference between the 57 versions and the one shown here?

Here is something else that I dont see everyday... A protective breast plate. This one is for sale for about 850 dollars. How rare are these? I bet that this and that trench shield would make an awesome machine gun nest display if one had the manniquins and area to set it up!

That is a beautiful bar, Nick! Despite what it has been through, I would be proud to own it!
What exactly does the COA from him mean? Does it mean if it is not real, he will buy it? I know that he must have given it a lot of thought as he is putting his reputation on the line with each of these COAs he signs. That certificate added another 75 dollars to what the member was going to ask for it before. This variation is so out of the norm that it would be difficult to confuse it with one of the other two types.
I too would love to hear from someone who might know something as I have it set on hold for me pending a trade.
Being a HUGE fan of these, you can see why I am on the fence as to what to do here. Either this is a very rare variation or a total repro.
Thank you for your input, Mr. Chairman.
Best regards

Wow Bill,
That sounds like a powerful set you found! I am suprised that a family would allow something like that to out of family hands.

These are all the official bars for the AD medals. However if you look in Kerrigan's lastest book, 1990 edition he shows one with a "patrol" bar which I believe to be a WWI bar attached later. I've never seen any other references for other bars. I may have to go over to the OMSA forum and ask them.
Thank you for sharing the info on this medal!

David,
Thank you for all of the great links. I have spent the morning going through them all(I am home sick today!)
I see your point about the stress Flak could play on a building...
Thanks again!

Here is a shot of the backs of the above insignia...
The waffenfarbe is a purplish color.

Here is what I have... I really do not know what unit is represented. The tabs were given to me by a member who I need to return the favor to. If you are on this forum, please PM me. I have something I want to give you.

Great pics guys! One day I will have a chance to see some of this stuff in person.
Now many of these arty pieces would fit onto each tower? What was the purpose of a flak tower? I know that it was to elevate the guns above the buildings in the city but I wonder why they did not just place them on top of buildings? It just seems like a lot of resources and time went into making them...
