EK 1939 Großmann or Deumer?
RICK SCHMID replied to Bill Garvy's topic in Germany: All Eras: The Iron Cross
If it's of any intrest I have crosses that have the same manufacturers # but have slight differencies with the cores, finish, dates and swazs. I thought it was my imagination but since I can't photograph with close up pics, I have to rely on a 20x lope and memory. I believe that sub assy. materials (cores) were exchanged (sold) to other mfgs. Does anyone have any further info. on this subject? thanks Rick Schmid -
EK 1939 ek2 #27 double marked same side again
RICK SCHMID replied to RICK SCHMID's topic in Germany: All Eras: The Iron Cross
Dave I don't think these doulbe markings were intentional. I think that they were just a production mistake. However, I'm not sure of the stamping process automated or hand fed into a press. Also the only response regarding double markings on rings was crosses that were dual marked by the same mfg. eg. L # and award # thanks for your intrest Rick Schmid -

Does anyone have a list of manufactures that have a similar frame design to #100 you know the one with the raised hump on the top where the ribbon ring is soldered. That might narrow it down a bit. Members need your thoughts. Thanks again Rick Schmid -

Geroge & Bill I'm not sure of the detail finishing operations on the Iron Cross but your logic sounds good. My theory is, that this was probably the final soldering step and it was missed leaving small voids between the frames all in the same approx. areas the inner corners all 4. An especially if no one else has the same situation. I would like to get some more detail on the final process. Anyone with this valuable info? Again comments or info welcome. Thanks for your speedy response Rick Schmid -
EK 1939 ek2 #27 double marked same side again

Gentleman: I hope this will in some way add to the knowledge base on ek'2. I have to imagine the shop worker who fell asleep at the wheel, or had to make a pit stop, and when he returned, hit the machine button and stamped the ring twice. I guess the quality guy had the same problem HaHa. Well iI guess all will be checking their booty twice, looking for abnormalities. Hope to hear from you Thanks for your speedy response . Rick Schmid Also please have a look at my other weird double marked #65 love it. -

Hi George the ek2 has four slots milled into the corners. if looked at through a 20x loop one can see a tool mark running perpendicular to the cross. its looks like a controlled cut as the slot is wider than the seam. the balance of the soldering looks perfect. if more pics are needed for all four sides let me know i'll do my bet to get them posted. higher resolution would help but im still restricted. i also have some double marked ek2 posted. your thoughts would be appreciated thanks Rick Schmid -
[attachmentid=8913][attachmentid=8914]hi does anyone have an ek2 #23mm with slots cut into the "4" soldered sides? my assumption is, that it was mfg. this way to drain any moisture that would accumulate between the core and the frame. your thoughts appreciated thanks Rick Schmid

HOW MANY HAVE DOUBLE MARKED EK2'S CHECK YOUR IRON CROSS'S I HAVE 2 WITH COA'S -
How many Ek2's with more than 1 mm stamped on ring did the manufactures make ? How many different manufacturers? I have the same mm stamped more than once on two manufacturers. Is this common? If not what do you think it might increase the value to? Would you like to see two different Eks2 with mm that have a double marking? I have read several books and been on line for a while but have seen very little reference other than #24 and #44 having referenced some other identification mark. If intrested in seeing these items #27 & 65 please let me know and I will try my best to post pics of them. I believe these tems to be genuine third reich items. Is it possible the collector doesn"t look for this unusual situation?
