    1. I am uploading 2 page review of the NCO Rank Insignias WRITTEN by: Air Sergeant Major Salim DİKDURAN and EDITED by: Demir ERMAN into GMIC DOCUMENT ARCHIVE http://gmic.co.uk/index.php/files/ .

While I am translating the Turkish ranks into English I used NATO ranks for Turkish and USA Military. I also uploaded this NATO Codes for Turkey and USA in order to help you to compare them using "OR" NATO codes.

Here is the picture of the first page.

      Enjoy

      Demir

Please feel free to correct me when you find the translation of ranks into English is wrong. :speechless:

    2. According to my dear friends from The Turkish Military History Studies Group, the sailor is probably (Because the name is not clear and some letters are not clear) Corvette Iclaliye which was used as school ship during WWI.

      Regards

      Demir

    3. Merhaba,

I am in Ankara. Lets have a lunch together. Please check your GMIC mail for details.

There are several Museums in Ankara. But for Military History IMO there are 2 places to visit:

First Atatürk's Mausoleum (Anıtkabir) where you can also visit the museum.

      http://www.ataturktoday.com/Anitkabir.htm

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/An%C4%B1tkabir

The second interesting place is Museum of the War of Independence (1st Parliament Building)

There are some shops dealing with medals, orders etc. They do not sell weapons or uniforms. Actually it is forbidden to take old medals etc. outside of Turkey. Be careful.

      In Cappadocia

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cappadocia

there are some shops in URGUP and ORTAHISAR and other places, but if you don't really know what you are buying then don't but for that cheap price which you bargained for. I suggest take an air balloon tour early in the morning and after visiting he churches in the area you must see one of the Underground cities in KAYMAKLI or DERINKUYU which were created by the early Christians who were hiding from the Romans.

I hope you enjoy your trip,

regards and a happy new year

      Demir

    4. I'm very interested to see the Chinese / Japanese characters on the packages for the Fifth Turkish Brigade badges (Post # 44). Do you know where these badges were made?

      Hi,

A Korean friend of mine translated it as "badge" as dfdenizyaran says. My friend says it is Chinese but used in China,Japan and Korea.

I think it must have been made in Japan considering the fact of production potential among others in 1954. The silk Turkish Flag patches were also from Japan.

      Regards

      Demir

    5. dfdenizyaran shared a photo above in this forum. (Posted 02 August 2012 - 18:22)

That photo gives a good idea about the uniforms of the 1st Turkish Brigade, before leaving for Korea at Etimesgut in Ankara.

From left: Col. Celal Dora -Comm. 241.nd Regiment, Dep. Comm. Natik Poyrazoglu, Captain Abbas Yurdakul, adjutant Capt. Halim Irsoy, 5th Captain ?, Regiment Legal Adv. Capt. Munir Araslı, Captain Muzaffer Sebukcebe and First Lieutenant Seref Unuvar

And here is the Standard of the 241st Infantry Regiment that landed on Pusan Korea in 1950.

    11. Does anyone know offhand how many women recieved the EK?

      Thanks

      Chris

I suspect the nurse with the TWM is the nurse whom NAXOS posted (a photo of her) in his thread (Elfriede Scherhaus). The photo resembles her very much. I can not say anything more after what I said above .. IMHO if the nurse was so strict applying the rules (wearing the TWM just the right place and also had the ribbon exactly where it belongs) then the ribbon most probably has been the EKII ribbon.

      Demir

    12. They must be, Ottomans had very good archive system, they had everything registered, the problem for us now is, they were written using the Arabic alphabet. So unless the Ottoman Archives people have them translated, we have to find somebody who can locate them and read them. Are you looking for a specific roll, so that I can check asking friends.

    13. Thanks, here is another image.

      Hi,

Nice set, lovely German made medal and ribbon. The metal piece (dog tag?) has to be pictured after turning it.

The numbers are from top: 6, 3 and 142.

If you post a bigger picture of the metal piece (after turning it) I will ask help for the words.

      Regards.

      Demir

PS: I am glad that you liked the Turkish War Medal book.

With a little help from my friends (like the Beatles song)

The translation of the dog tag is: 6th Division, 3rd Mobile Regiment, 142 (enlisted man number). It has to be Mobile Gendarmerie Regiment

      Regards

      Demir
