Hi Peter, I don't have any knowledge about the uniforms that was worn then but after Turkey joined NATO following this war on 18 February 1952,

the NATO or you can say American style was adopted. I am sure that those who have served in Korea had been given the better quality US uniforms. I am sure that Mr.Saral can enlighten us more on this subject.

Hi,

This is the picture of the Japanese made patch for the Turkish Brigade I bought recently.

The patch measures 7.3 cm (2 7/8") in diameter and was done in gold bullion thread on red wool.

The backing material is a coarse green material.

I thought that it is only ribbon that you can wear in the second button hole.

Terry , if you ask me how I understand that it is AWS ,

Let say we can not see the back , so we can not see the marks etc..

In this position , Not very easy to understand , but numerous TWM's I saw and sold.

First I am starting by the pen work under the enamels , then I am checking the form

of the star , last and most important , check the Tughra , for example , if you compare

Godet ones Tughras , they are more clear and proper then AWS ones. Even I can say that ,

Tugras on the AWS made wrong. Like the Steinheuer and Luck ones.. All wrong...

Specially as you know , the Tughra Mark on the TWM's are Sultan Mehmed Resad's Tughra.

On the part where it was written "MEHMED" ( I tried to mark with Green )on your picture and , where

it was written "HAN" (I tried to mark with Blue) is completely different then the Godet ones.

Please check your shoot of the below picture ( I mean the one without my Green and Blue lines) ,

The blue Lines are not continue properly , below I also paste a Godet Picture , which I found from

this forum. It's Tughra is Far different then your AWS.

As mentioned in my thread I was in Turkish War Veterans Association and they were giving away the awards after checking the list of the Korean War enlisted personnel.

I think it will be a good idea to get in touch with War Veteran or similar Association in your city.

The Turkish brigades, between the dates of November 1950 and July 1953, have fought the following battles:

the Kunuri diversion; the Kumyangjangni-Illi-431-639 -Imjin attacks; 22/23 April 1951; the Chorwon-Seoul diversion; the Taegyewonni defense; the Barhar-Kumhwa-701 attacks; and the Wegas defense battles.

The Turkish brigades have accomplished all their war tasks. The brigades fought four important battles which affected the course of the war and these are the battles of Kunuri, Kumjangjangni, Taegyewonni and Wegas.

After Kunuri these were said:

There is also a Republic of Korea War Service Medal (ROKWSM)

"Republic of Korea War Service Medal (ROKWSM)) is a decoration of South Korea which was first authorized in December 1950.

Originally known as the Incident Participation Medal the medal was first authorized to South Korean troops

who had participated in the initial counter-assaults against North Korean aggression in June 1950.

In 1951, President Syngman Rhee ordered that the Incident Participation Medal be renamed as the War Service Medal

and further authorized the decoration to any troops who were defending South Korea against invasion.

In 1954, the South Korean government authorized the now called Korean War Service Medal to all United Nations troops

who had fought in the Korean War between the dates of June 25, 1950 to July 27, 1953."

This box belongs to USA Korean Service Medal.

The Korean Service Medal was authorized on Nov. 8, 1950, for members of the United States Armed Forces for service in Korea, 30 consecutive or 60 nonconsecutive days between June 27, 1950, and July 27, 1954. This KSM is awarded for participating in any engagement against the enemy in the territory, waters, or air in North or South Korea. Personnel also are considered as having participated in an engagement if they were members of:

1. A unit under tthe operational command of the Commander-in-Chief, Far East, other than those units within the territorial limits of Korea, which has been designated by the Commander-in-Chief, Far East, as having directly supported the military campaign in Korea.

2. Was furnished an individual certificate by the Commander-in-Chief, far East, testifying to the material contribution made in the direct support of the military efforts in Korea.

There are two versions of English Korean UN War medal.

This was the thread:

The English version of the UN Korean War medal has 2 issues.

The size of the English inscription " FOR SERVICE IN / DEFENCE OF THE / PRINCIPLES OF THE / CHARTER OF THE / UNITED NATIONS" in the reverse of the medal differs.

In the first issues above mentioned inscription is in 2 mm high letters (left in the picture) and in the second later issues 2.5 mm. high.

The one with shorter leaf has 2.5 mm high letters in the reverse (right one in the picture) and even the word KOREA on the obverse is taller and larger when compared the longer leaf version

Hi,

I found some info about him with the help of the War Veterans Assc.

He was born in Samsun/Turkey (Black Sea coast city) in 1930.

His fathers name is Hakki.

He had been to Korea with the second brigade assigned and came back in 1952.

He was a Staff Sergeant.

1. The size of the medal is smaller in the original.

2. The top leaf of the wreath surrounding the world is long in the original.

3. The leaves of the wreath are more closer to each other in the original

3. the space between Europe and Noth America is narrower in the original

4. Australia is thicker and bigger in the original

5. New Zealand (top right side of 12.00 o'clock) is thicker in the original

6. In the original the bar with a handle under the script Korea holding the medal is narrower in general and thinner at the ends and in it is not as wide as the others.

7. Reverse of the same bar in the middle where the hand holds the medal there is a small mound. A line passes through this mound is thinner and the mounds size is bigger than the bar in the original.

8. More space between the script and the edge in the original Spanish one.

There are more in the world map but the wreath is enough to easily recognize the unofficial ones.

The pin is not important original might be lost with the original ribbon.

I checked the other language UN Korean war medals (except Italian) and they are all same.

I am posting the pictures of Original UN made Spanish Korean War Medal and comparing it with another Spanish version.

Also an original Turkish medal to show the same print and style with the original Spanish one.
