It is not 5th class because it seems that the part where the tughra is not silver and I wouldn't suggest this one.

Four years ago our friend Auseklis from this Forum indicated that BB&Co of the Turkish War Medal stands for Binder Brüder & Co. from Lüdensheid. This Company was also mentioned amongst the German medal makers.

So far non of our friends from the Forum said anything about it. I would be glad to hear your opinions.

Also did German Companies used Co. for company and is the German sign for "and"  is "&" ?

Yes you are right, Sometime ago, I remember, in one of the discussions, I have agreed to use those terms. I think this is the only medal in the world which could be produced by some other country and considered to be period item. There was no other way of course to be able to get the medal since there was no Turkish Government.

Hi Lambert,

As you know any medal which was not made during and after the WWI or ordered to a foreign producer (if there is any) by the Ottoman Mint is a replica or a copy (whichever word one prefers) which we consider as period items, because of the fact that people hasn't been able to get their medals from the Ottoman Government after the war so that they supplied their own medals from the German and Austrian manufacturers.

What we are discussing recently was not the ones made during that period but medals produced recently and call them fakes.

IMHO this is a period item, maybe Austrian make because of the style of the tougra. Date is missing.

Hi, 

There are several medal books and one has to check each one of them. Your people can go the Archives and can ask the help of one of the people working there. I have done it myself for the Turkish War Medal recipients but I couldn't find most of them because they were given during the last years of the Ottomans and medals given by the Germans. As far as I know other medal and order books were kept well if the medals were not given during the lasy days.

You have to apply to the Ottoman Archives in Istanbul. https://en.devletarsivleri.gov.tr/

There are several books containing the names of the recipients at the archives. The problem is you have to know the old Turkish script. Ask your friends to check the books in the archives again.

Here is the table for Ottoman Turkish Order and Medal Ribbons. prepared by me.

I used mainly Mr. Metin Erüreten's  Ottoman Orders and Medal book to find out colors of the ribbons.

Of course some of them I already have in my collection.

I also will include 3 hard to find ribbon photos. (Şefkat Nişanı-Orders of Charity, Hareket-i Arz - Eartquake and Tahlisiye - Life Saving Medal 4 or more)

Here is a very rare Turkish War medal made by Deschler Munich which was founded in 1831. This medal belongs to a friend of mine. I am sharing the photos with his permission.

(Deschler & Sohn was founded in 1831 in Munich. Even the famous "Pour le mérite" of the Prussian kings was made here, the Bavarian military service cross and almost all orders of the Second World War. In 1960 the Badge factory moved from Wirthstraße in Munich to the converted old distillery in Feldkirchen.

Helmut Stillner steered the company's fortunes for 22 years. He joined Deschler & Sohn in the 40s as an employee. In 1975 his then boss, Gustav Kainz, offered him the company. "I could not buy the company back then, first I took over as a tenant and paid high amounts monthly," says Stillner. When the lease expired, he became owner. The company manager, who is living in Kirchseeon at the age of 77, recalls the work of the company, who is now living for 77 years: "Once a representative of the Vatican came and designed awards for us." At the invitation of Deutsche Nickelwerke, Stillner traveled to the Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie , Whose guard was equipped with metal fittings from Feldkirchen, just before his adversaries pounced against him. Later, Stillner made contact with businessmen from the GDR at an Inhorgenta trade fair in Munich: "They were keen on foreign exchange and we were able to produce very cheaply in Gablonz, so we were able to achieve large profit margins." This contact ensured the company, unlike some Co-competitors, after the fall of the wall the existence.

In 1997 Stillner sold the Bavarian traditional company to the Austrian company Pichl in Inzing. Sorry but I did not understand this sentence " Demir, would it not depend on the size of the star whether it is 1st class or 2d class? I always thought that the 1st class stars are larger than the 2d class ones. I have a 1st class star that is 98 cm diameter and a 2d class one that is 88 cm, so 1 cm difference(see picture). Or is that coïncidence? "

There is of course a size difference between 1st and 2nd Class Orders. On the other hand even same classes may have different sizes depending on the maker.  

 I said most probably it is a 1st Class Order just looking at the amound of the diamond cuts on the Order. It may not be. There is no second Order to compare.  Saabsafir did not write any measurements at all. So mine was just a guess.

It is a nice Medjidie Breast Star most probably 1st Class. But the top part needs allignment (toward left) with the bottom part. The middle rays of the top part need to allign with the longest ray of the bottom. Nice order. Enjoy.

This is what I bought recently:

Three documents belonging to the Confidential Sanitary Representative - Professor Tobold (Germany). 
1. The award document, Medjidie Order 2 cl., the document is dated-1891. 
2. Permission, Berlin-14 of May, 1891. 
3. Letter from the Secretary General of the Imperial Medical Community,  acceptance of professor Tobold to the Society. 
Letter - 24 June, 1890, Constantinople. 

Will it be possible to translate these documents into English.
