    2. Hello all,

Statistics being part of my job and considering the present world financial situation I wondered how was the situation on the front of imperial russian orders & medals at auction.

Please find attached, for two of the main auction houses in Moscow, the results, in terms of sold lots, at their auctions since June 2006.

As we can see the % of unsold lots drops dramatically in 2008 - 68% of unsold lots for the last auction !!! and for most of the sold lots the hammer price was at the low estimate or below - only some exceptional items (St Andrew collar, white Eagle 1852, St Anna beg. XIXth century) were hammered at usual Moscow high prices.

Maybe one day we will be again able to buy at reasonable prices our favorite orders !

      Regards

      Pavel

Something wrong to upload an Excel or Word file !!!

    5. Thanks a lot, Alex. The picture you show has common features with the one I have seen, excepr for the design of the eagles, which is quite different.

The firm Arthus-Bertrand seems to have existed as early as 1840, according to JACOB (Court Jewelers of the World). Has anyone heard of Russian orders made in Paris as early as that ? A very interesting lead. I would be most grateful to Pavel if he would comment.

      I am most grateful

      Paul

      Hello all,

I replied too fast :speechless: Paul, at first look your order seemed to be a "Nicholas I" model, but after a closer examination and as told by Yankee the eagles are quite unusual , same for his remark on the center. In my documentation (dozens of catalogs of the last 15 years) never seen such a model. Never heard of russian orders made in Paris during the first half of the XIXth century but am not expert in russian orders made outside of Russia . All other St Stanislaus orders I have seen of the same period have similar eagles as Alex' picture and eagles only visible on the avers (on yours : eagles on both sides).

I was ready to join three models of Nicholas I period recently sold (2nd,3rd & a quite unusual 4th class - existed only from 1831 to 1839) but am unable to get a file of 70k max. size !!! Will try again.

    6. Hello everyone

I came recently across this 2nd class cross of the Order of Saint-Stanislas. It looks like gold and enamels, but the design of the eagles between the arms is different from those illustrated in Werlich for instance.

Could it be considered a a legitimate award. If so, why would the eagles be so different ? Could it be a Polish make rather than russian ? What period could it possibly have been made. It looks very good indeed, but I am confused.

Every bit of information will be gratefully received

      Paul

      Hello

This is a model with Nicholas I type eagles (fallen wings) 1825-1855. Similar ones in The Foerster Collection dated circa 1831 , 1835 , 1845. Two sold in Moscow Dec. 2007 : 2nd class dated 1846, 3rd class dated circa 1830.

    7. Dear Friends ,

I need urgent information about ; As I know Eduard and Keibal (Sometimes IL)

put the hallmarks to the St.Stanislaus and many other Imperial Orders.

My question is , Which period did the Original St.Stanislaus Breast Stars , which doesnt

have any hallmarks or stamps on them made? Who made them ? I have a 90mm best of best workship

St.Stanislaus Breast star , without any hallmarks. Does it make before Eduard and Keibel ? ,

Also the style of the star is not like period custom made ones, exactly like Eduard ones.

Any help will be appreciate ,

      Thanks in advance,

      Ruby

      Hello Ruby

As says George, all breast stars of russian manufacture have markings.

Could it be possible to get a picture ?

I have 3 SS models of Edouard stars : before & after 1908 plus a bronze model of war time, I could give all dimensions.

    9. Hi All,

I should need a clarification about the use of the 'Swords' for the Order of

      Alexander Nevsky:

What I would like to know is if this Order was bestowed with the 'swords' for 'Military Exploits' only or if it was sufficient that the recipients was a Military person ?

I'm asking this because I'm re-searching the full medal entitlement of a British Field Marshal (John Denton Pinkstone FRENCH [1852-1925], 1st Earl of Ypres) and I know that He received the Order in question but I don't know if with or without SWORDS.

Can someone help me please ?

      Many Thanks in advance

      All the Best

      Lilo

P.S. as an aside, I would also appreciate a comment about the frequency of the issue of the 'Alexander Nevsky Order' with SWORDS in particular to British (foreign) recipents in respect to the issue of that WITHOUT 'Swords'.

      Hi Lilo,

I attach the only info I have found on the subject in Durov's "The orders of Russia"

That order with swords is very seldom encountered and one sold some years ago was even with black enamel !!
