If one were awarded the Landwehr-Dienstauszeichnung II. Klasse between 1895-1900, would one receive the medal or the bar?

Did anyone else notice the huge 14er 1870 spange offered at Detlev Niemann? Quite remarkable and must be identifiable.

That's pretty big money for this material, and why I as well didn't get it, especially since I am still in the hole for getting a Jasta Boelcke Fliegerjacke recently.

Looks like the spange and docs group has been pulled. Hopefully the buyer of the aviation group managed to keep all together.

I've been following this auction, and I thought at first the spange with repeat bar was put together. Then I looked a little closer.....

The Elefantenorden was an official award, but the Loewenorden was unofficial. Criteria for award, I presume, was a period of active service in the colonies. The Loewenorden also came in a second class version, in bronze, on a ribbon.

Great wartime Saxon bar.

I also missed the St. Henry bar, one of the nicest Godet bars I've seen lately, and I've been looking for a St. Henry like this for years. Of course it also has the luxury Centenarmedaille.

Very interesting, I think it was intended for mounting on a plaque or other commemorative. The first thing that came to my mind was "Polish" as well.

Very nice period issue piece.

That's great, Glenn, as I heard from the family, second-hand, that he was a recipient, but dismissed it as one of those "stories". I wonder why his HOHX is not on the spange?

Thanks for that, Glenn, I actually have the original Patent for this. I was told that this officer was a recipient of the HOHX, but it is not on his Ordensspange.

Very interesting, looks to be an 1830-40 period piece.

Nice, I like these well-worn examples. I'm still looking for one of these, so keep me in mind if you want to unload it.

I'm not convinced that this star is from the Kaiser's estate.

Killed in action as a Generalmajor zD.
I don't have numbers, but combat losses of German Generals in the First war were NOTHING like those of the Second!
Quite right, I heard a figure of something like ten generals KIA in WW1, whereas something like 200 were killed in WW2.

Colors of Prussia are actually black\white, those of Germany are black\white\red.

Outstanding, and rare, spange.

I never knew him, but do have a couple of his spanges in my collection, so I know he had excellent taste in medals.

As usual, outstanding items.

Some really outstanding miniatures in this thread. I wonder if that is the von Plato family that produced the RKT Anton-Detlev?

I recently picked up a group of medals and documents to a Saxon Leutnant, Edmund Schill. He was with Infanterie-Regiment 15 Nr. 181, was made an officer in July, 1916, and received the EK1, Friedrich August Medal in Silver and the Albert Order Knight 2nd Class with Swords. If anyone can add any details, it would be greatly appreciated.

Very bizarre, even for those crazy Bavarians.

The first one is signed from Onkel Rolf, wonder if he survived the battle of Moscow? The second looks like "unser ? gefunden", but my translation skills could be better.
