Is this a piece of silverware?

Yup, I always wonder about these alleged bidders and whether or not they even exist. BTW the real one and the document are pretty amazing pieces, but you've got to pony up some serious cash.

Now us nerds can really go down that proverbial rabbit hole.

Agreed, I have a couple of these in the cases with the outer cartons, and they're red as well.

That's ridiculous, not enough if it were real, way too much as a fake. Who are these morons?

Rick is right, a nice SAO1mS from one of the better manufacturers now goes for 700 euros in Europe.

We know that the Germans were pretty brazen about disregarding statutes.

I like the second one, but the price is stupid.

I agree Peter. And I would never obtain such a piece without some absolutely incontrovertible provenance.

There's something funny about the finish and the background on that bar up for opinions. And I do like that example on the bow, I have a Carola Medal with that bar on it.

That is nuts. I found one of those, not in great condition, for around 30.00.

Too rich for my blood.

That one's fake, probably by the Schraegstich Faker.

Yup, I bid on that one, but the condition was such that I didn't go 'all in'.

The Germans were never consistent in following statutes regarding decorations. And many were thrifty and didn't want to pay to update their medal bars.

They continued to be worn after 1913.

Possibly he wore the old-style Schnalle, not the medal.

Agree, very desirable wide frame, but not at that loony price.

You're right Rick, the case is for an AO1, and I'm not convinced about the medal either. And everything about that EK set is fake, wrong and annoying.

You bring up a good point, did those who died much later from wounds or whatnot become KIA statistics and thus qualify the next-of-kin for this award?
1 -
That's on the light side, should be around 16.

It's mysterious, I wonder if this guy was a victim of shell shock.

Thanks for the clarification. I saw a lecture many years ago by, I believe, the nephew of this guy, who quit his job at the UN in protest over the actions of Madeleine Albright.

Wasn't this the Sponeck who was sentenced to death for retreating?

Glad you like that one Rick, hard to imagine how much nastiness that guy had to go through to earn those awards.
