The very nice official Sri Lankan Air Force site seems to be down just now.

    2. Complete agreement. And I think this applies to all sub-areas of the wider forum.

The idea is for us all to learn, not just to grant self-important unsupported Olympian judgments and feel better about the size of our expertise. The only potential problem is that while we all learn, the fake-makers have the chance to learn too. That is a risk we ought to be prepared to take, I think.

They day you stop learning, you aren't what is called an "expert", you are what is called "dead".

    4. Interesting. Thanks, Bob.

Good to see that the talked-about revisions in the honors system are slow in coming, as the SB will be a likely casualty as phaleristic (and other) history gets erased.

The box doesn't look much different from the old ones, but it would be interesting to see if this were a nice pinback one or a nasty-brassy ugly SB. I'd bet on the former.

    5. Interesting question, but I am not very clear as to what you are asking. Sorry. Sometimes I confuse easily.

      Are you interested in:

1- Local (Egyptian/Sudanese) troops who fought with the British against their countrymen.

      or

2- The Egyptian/Sudanese troops that opposed the British invasions?

      or

      3- Both.

      or

      4- Something else.

    6. That would be my guess, but why the medal and not the order? Not way to be sure without checking the records, and as all foreign awards required approval, that record is usually there. Also, I think is medals are in the NAM. With the VC, it would be easy enough to check their location.
