Absolutely, but that doesn't mean he was "augmenting" his medals with the contemporary equivalent of those shameless "commemorative" medals you see you commonly today.

Obviously the bar to that famous hero, Hauptman Walther von Mitty.

Long articles take longer than short articles and there is a desire to keep balance in individual issues. This one may get flak for the editor, with so many "exotic" articles (so deemed by those who would rather sit and kvetch than write).
There may also be other things at work we do not understand.

Can this be restricted to the north shore of teh Mediterranean? To keep Arab awards together??

Despite the project which some on the forum have undertaken, this is a fine volume, filling our need for information very nicely.

He eventually sells his things, at his prices. Mainly back to the "Old Country", I guess. ECON 101.

Well I tend to agree that he is sometimes the "Kai Winkler" of pricing, it still kinda makes you wonder.
Sorry, Darrell, your reference is lost on me, but try:

Yes, ugly as they may be, a fascinating hidden tale of social history and self-awarded medals.

Rat-powered music box?

I'd wager they are replicas (which have an active and moderately respected 'niche' in Australia). Worse would be that they are dipped and painted originals (with clasps stripped).
A classy display, though!

Ed-
The thread is still there (no reason to delete it) The link to it is: http://www.soviet-awards.com/forum/soviet-...t-cav-army.html (hope no one minds the link!)
Dave
OK, thanks. I couldn't find it. Obvious user error on my part. Just wanted to see what was said Over There.
We do not, so far as I know, have any policy prohibiting links. We know knowledge resides all over. Unlike Other Fora.

Impressive.
And some replica medal maker did well too.

Thanks! A fascinating piece of history!!

Interior, please?

Seb: Like mine?
I tried to find the thread on That Other Forum (where I rarely go), and it seems not to be there. Managament censorship?

Research requires serious sources, as Rick delicately suggested, not the internet. The internet has nothing to do with "sources" and even less with "research". Those who have actually done it have some idea of the amount of time and money it consumes. Enjoy doing research, it is fun!

Wish my copy would come so I could see it. The problem in being a life member, I guess. Ours are the last to go into the post since they have our money already?!

Ed, how could I make my efforts more scientific? I really do wish to learn.
Sorry, Bill, I was unclear. I was referring to my comments and not your research. I don't much like the free-standing "wow" comments, but what you have presented here deserved that!

For Russians - 862
Interesting. What is the source for this number? I know that A&T worked in the archives for years, though these honorary awards are notoriously hard to trace. I am, however, surprised at the great difference.

Well put, Paul.

Hi, Dear Ed
William's Labor Honor is not purchased from me:)

But mine came from you, and it is loved.

Yes, a very nice (and very rare) badge. Not at all sure where/when/how it fits into the other wrestling badges. And no one has even seen a "1", though it must exist.
Nice one!

Right, Jim. But isn't it the intelligent ones who ought to bother us the most? This isn't some mindless hormone- and hate-driven thug. Those we can comprehand, and dismiss. It sounds like this case is more complex and, perhaps, more troubling?
