leigh kitchen Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 Just as a point of interest, a flurry of unnamed DCMs & MMs came onto the market in Britain a few years ago, sold as original & "thought" to be unnamed as issued to foreigners. About the same time though good quality repros of WWI medals & stars were also coming on the market......(I'm not suggesting that tthe ones shown here are not genuine).
Igor Ostapenko Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 (edited) DCM or MM ?May be not good pictures of MM , but I'm sure - medals 100% ORIGINAL ! Edited March 11, 2007 by Igor Ostapenko
Chris Boonzaier Posted March 21, 2007 Author Posted March 21, 2007 I am no experts, but they look very nice indeed!
John5813 Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 Does anyone know how many DSO's and MC's were awarded to foreigners during WWI?John
Ed_Haynes Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 As these were not routinely gazetted, numbers are imprecise. Ed_Haynes Posted May 5, 2007 Posted May 5, 2007 (edited) Interesting, Igor. Do you have the reference to this? These seem to be wartime awards, not Civil War. We need to separate the two sets of numbers. Edited May 5, 2007 by Ed_Haynes
Ed_Haynes Posted May 5, 2007 Posted May 5, 2007 Yes, I saw that. This is why I said what I did and it is part of what makes the document so interesting. This is part of what makes me want the reference so I can see this the next time I'm at the PRO. Presumably, similar sheets exist for other allied countries.
