Yes, there is legitimate restoration, and we all know what it is, but there is also FRAUD and we all know what it is. Much like the difference between killing and murder?
When things are unnamed and unnumbered (and, historically, should have been thus) it all gets very very gray, very quickly, especially when we know there are unethical wolves howling in the forest around us. Were we all like the Gentlemen on this forum, . . . .

Those maker marks are absolutely brutal to zoom into .... aaarrrgghh
No joke! In between the reflectivity and the modest curvature ... gaaaahhh!!!
Looks "organic" to me anyway.

See http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=4237 (into which this shoudl probably be merged).
Welcome to the WONDROUS INSANITY of Mongolian awards and to the #1 global site on them!

Some call it "restoration", others call it FRAUD.

Not sure this will add much, but the mintmarks and screw-nuts of my two (undocumented) specimens. Both have their nuts intact.

Now with me (too), though one medal "just coming" (though a restoration).
A celebratory group-shot!
(Loose, not mounted, so a bit ragged . . . but . . . still . . .

'"Just" an Order of Glory III!'
But the tales, the tales! While the research may cost more than you paid for these medals (not this "thin" one, probably), the value can be great.

Like these. In many ways they say more about Soviet society than a military gallantry award.
The only ones I have are in teh group to Ekaterina Nicolarvna Dvornikova.

One more living with me, to David Mironovich Sup'yan. Research on this almost-certainly partial group not yet in hand.

We all rent them. No intent to move these lovelies on until I move on to . . . whatever 'tis that comes next. (Worm food seems most likely.) I am always acutely aware that I am only a transitional custodian of what comes to live with me. This means I have the duty to add to our knowledge, to the accompanying research, as I am only the temporary keeper of this person's memory and their medals. When it moves on in several decades or so (I hope), someone else will house Colonel Belykh's awards. No intent to let go of them any time soon, trust me.

Yep, look over there, my friend. We have grown the best Mongolian phaleristic forum here, "under the radar" of all the other stuff going on.
Someone with The Power should merge this thread with http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=4237 thanks.
