Well, just had a look at the portrait through the magnifying glass, but those vertical stripes are clearly visible. It seems they were really "present" at the original ribbon and are not defect of printing.

Thanks for your reply, Dave! Anyway the last ribbon is plain blue/light blue so we have there long service award. Any ideas regarding the last ribbon worn by the Sta-Bataillonsführer from the very first post in this thread?

Could it be Prussian Dienstauszeichnung für Offiziere? I suupose there are no vertical stripes on the ribbon.

Well, here's a portrait of another Stahlhelm member. No date, no name, unfortunately. Only place where photo was taken is known, it's Magdeburg. Could you please jelp with identifying two last ribbons attached after EKII and Friedrich-August Kreuz 2.Klasse?

Dear gentlemen, could you please help me to identify decorations on ribbon bars worn by these Stahlhelmbund members? Portrait No.1 - Sta-Bataillonsführer. Two first decorations are obvious: EKII ausg.1914 and Militärverdienstorden (Württemberg). But what about the last one?

Larry, could you please explain why the man on my photo doesn't wear any cipher inside the crescent? And what could be his rank then?

Many thanks, Larry! It might be the right guess! Colour plates suit insignia well, but we don't see any cipher just above the crescent. By the way, French collectors gave me a hint that the person on photo could be from a certain unit of tirailleurs algériens stationed somewhere in the North Africa. At least the crescent he wears corresponds to insignia worn by the latter. Please find attached photos of original crescents from the web. But the problem is that he should have attached cipher denoting batallion...

Dear gentlemen, I'm not sure whether this thread is correct one to post this photo to but I'm a bit confused searching for the appropriate one... Here's a fragment of a studio photo showing a Russian emigre who fled Bolshevist Russia after 1917 revolution and joined some overseas colonial army. His last rank with the Russian Imperial army was Sergeant Major (Feldwebel). Is it possible to say anyhting about the uniform he wears, rank and decorations he sports? PLease note white rectangular stripe worn on the left sleeve. I've been told once that he served with a Syrain Infantry batallion from Levant special forces troops, but I'm not sure whether that guess is correct.

Dear gentlemen, could you please help me with identifying one decoration on the ribbon bar worn by the commander of the FAR23 Oberst Karl Philipp Friedrich von Herff? Judging from the awards, the portrait was made between November 25, 1916 and February 24, 1917. The photo is from my personal collection. Glenn J. helped me with identification of all the other awards on the ribbon bar of von Herff: EK2; ???; Roter Adler Orden 4.Klasse; Dienstauszeichnung für Offiziere; Zentenaermedaille; Ritterkreuz 1.Klasse - Orden Philipps des Großmütigen. The ribbon seems to be white with two vertical dark stripes. And this one to give impression of the photo itself.

Dear gentlemen, I'm currently writing an article and need to identify two decorations worn by the Kaiser Wilhelm II. 1. Here's a fragment of the 1914 press photo from my personal collection. All the three neck awards as well as two badges at the left side of the tunic are obvious, as well as the one at the upper right buttonhole. But what is the white enameled cross worn below Jersualem-Erinnerungskreuz? Here's a close-up with that mysterious (for me) award. I've been given a version by a British colleague that it might be Grand Cross of the Bulgarian Royal Order of Saints Cyril and Methodius, but I doubt it. Could you please help me? 2. Another picture is a well-known portrait of Wilhelm II wearing unique Protektordekoration of the Johanitter Orden bestowed on him on August 23, 1888. Original portrait is kept by the Imperial War Museum (London). The question is: what is the Teutonic-shaped cross worn at the buttonhole? Is it Austrian Marianerkreuz awarded to the Emperor on June 1902? The shape of the decoration suits my version, but I'm still not sure whether I'm right...
