      BURKINA FASO

Here is Burkina Faso : Ordre des Arts & Lettres et de la Communication It's a Knight badge (Chevalier) with clasp "Musique Danse" On the reverse there is the maker mark : MARCK from France, but someone tried to "burned it" ....!!! ??? Gladly just a small part of the reverse is a bit damaged. Long time ago on this post Dragomir show us the award document. Now I can show the badge itself. Diameter : 35 millimeters and very thick : 4 millimeters !!! Weight : 34 grammes. Emmanuel

      BURKINA FASO

Hello Gentlemen, Here is a good photo of the Order of Merit Burkinabé (with clasp Amitié Coopération = Friendship & Cooperation) from Burkina Faso & an exemple of award document. Badge is 36 millimeters in diameter. Emmanuel
    3. Here is all the reverse side of the low classes badge shown before on this same post. They are in silvered or gilded metal. Emmanuel
    4. Thread on ribbon of Ethiopia post 1975. Credit to Antonio Prieto & John Ducan Mc Meekin '> Emmanuel
    5. There is also this badge , which is another award....maybe Order of Africa or Order of the Red Sea. Badge is 35 millimeters. Reverse is blank, no makers. My opinion is that it's better to show what has been founded, and maybe Ilja or others members will bring some more photo. Emmanuel
    6. Here is what I believ Order of the Blue Nile in 3 Classes. I cannot say more, it's a tentative ID. Badge are 34 milliemeters and their weight is about 14 grammes each. It's painted enamel. Reverse is blank with no makers mark. Emmanuel
    7. Here is a low class of that same Order, which is said to be Order of the Revolution of 1966. I bet it's a thrid class badge (said to be lowest of the classes of this award). Size : 34 millimeters & weight : 16 grammes. Reverse is blank, no makers mark. Any information is welcome. Emmanuel
    8. View of the breast star. Same 4 pièces construction as for the neck badge. Emmanuel
    9. Others view of the neck badge. It's a 4 pièces construction badge, as you can see on the side phto. It is obvious, top red arm has been re-enamel (not by me). Emmanuel
    10. Hello Gentlemen, I now have enough insignia for starting a post concerning Order from ethiopia post 1975 and post DERG regime. Identification is not 100 % sure, so please do consider I do my best. Here is what is said to be Order of the Revolution of 1966 I got the nack badge long time ago, from a french collector was was able to bring it back....... The breast star I got it very recently. Neck badge is 65 millimeters in diameter (weight 107 grammes) & breast star is 67 millimeters in diameter (weight 105 grammes) I will post pictures of these insignia separately & rear view too. Emmanuel
    11. We know that the said to be 3rd Type was short lived. In 1969 the Shah of Iran came back from USA after the funeral of President Eisenhower. He made a "stop over" in Tunis. We have a photograhy showing him and his wife the Farahdibah wearing insignia of Order of Independence 2nd Type. From conversation & exchange with collectors in Tunis, I know that the Order of Independence was sparsingly awarded under the 2nd shape in the 1970ies.1980ies and later. So the 2nd Type is also identical to 4th Type. I know it seems a bit messy, but observation of State Visit Photo teach us a lot. In the King Faiçal Mémorial in Ryadh (the King Faiçal of Saudi Arabia who was assasinated in 1975), there is a display of all his awards, incl a Coilar of Independence from Tunisia identical to the collar worn by the Shah of Iran. It's forbidden to take pictures there. Emmanuel
    12. It is not clear exactly when, but late 1958/1959 seems correct there has been some changes in ribbon colours and shape of insignia. The photo of Bourguibha President with white sash & 5 narrow red stripe is the Official President Portrait for Year 1960 (so the changes occured somewhen before). But the President is still clearly wearing the type of sash badge used previously. It exist a type of insignia is much much seldom seen, we will call it 3rd Type. Here is shown a 3rd Class (Officer, but ribbon lack the rosette....or maybe there was never a rosette). Anyway that badge is silver gilt. I have seen ounce a silver badge (not gilded). In an auction in 1997 there was a set (breast star & sash badge), but without sash !!!! Unfortunately no illustration, but I remember the size of the breast star : about 60 millimeters in diameter. Emmanuel
    13. That type of insignia is seen in various collection and is not too difficult to get. Insignia of the 5 classes have been seen, from Grand Cordon (Classe Majeur) till lower class 4th Class (ribbon without rosette corresponding to Knight). Here shown a 3rd Class or Officer
    14. Very shortly afterwards this type of insignia was used for a few years. inscription in center reads : Istiklal = Independence. Emmanuel
    15. Hello Gentlemen, The first version of the Order of Independence from Tunisia was a Nishan Iftikhar modified, with the word Istiklal on a red enamel background. The breast star in a case, is (was ??) in the Army Museum in Alexandria in Egypt (I downloaded that picture in 2001 or 2002), this site is not active anymore, as long as I know. Long time after I was able to buy such breast star , center is in good quality enamel, and pin bear a tunisian hallmark for silver Diameter is 81 millimeter. I never saw a low class badge of that type of insignia. We know Nixon, as Vice President of Eisenhower made a visit to Tunis in late 1956 (or early 57). President François Mitterand of France, who in 1950/51 was Minister of France d'Outremer (Minister of Oversea's France), but later Interior Minister in the Pierre Mendes France Government, and he played a key role in the process that lead to Independence of Tunisia & Morocco in 1956. It is likly possible that Francois Mitterand was awarded that shape of the Order of Independence too, same for the head of the Government Pierre Mendes France. Possible that moroccan & egyptian ministers have been awarded the Order of Independence (Istiklal) Under this shape. Emmanuel
    16. I knew I had that photo somewhere in my data base. This is D.P.M.P. Order of the Crown of Perak 2nd Class set from the 2nd type (watch my previous post showing the 3 type in their Member ranks); The 2nd type retain the ribbon from 1st Type, but design of badge evolute from 8 to 9 points and also center changes. Emmanuel
    17. Ounce in Kuala Kangsar (april 2004), I took this picture in the Regalia Museum next to the mosque. This show A.M.P. both in version for men & women. Emmanuel
    18. This thread show clearly the evolution of the shape of the Order of the Crown of Perak. Here shown are A.M.P Ahli Makhota Perak : Member of Order of the Crown of Perak (lowest rank of this Order). The first type badge was 8 pointed small silver star, then the second type is a 9 pointed small breast star with smooth gilded arms (retain exact same ribbon as the first type), then the third version is 9 pointed small breast star with featured design on the gilded arms. Emmanuel
    19. This is a D.P.M.P. breast star of the first version of Order of the Crown. I just own the breast star. This version was then modified somewhen in the late 80ies or mid 90ies.
    20. Hello Yed, This is a clearer picture of the Perak D.P.M.P (Order of the Crown of Perak) of my collection. D.P.M.P. is 2nd class set of Order of the Crown. People will get confuse, because they do NOT know that the shape of Order of the Crown has been modified during the reign of Sultan Azlan. This set is the current version, but it's third version. Emmanuel
    21. Here is the Birthday Medals, the 60th Birthday of Sultan Ahmad Shah in 1990 & the 80th Birthday of Sultan Ahmad Shah in 2010 If anybody has a clue on what should be the 60th Birthday ribbon, I would like to know...... I do not know if there was a 70th Birthday Medal..... Emmanuel
    22. Sultan Ahmad Shah of Pahang succeded his father in 1974, he's been very prolific in awarding Datukship and instituted a lot of commemorative medals for his Jubilee & Birthday. Here are they : Sultan Ahmad Shah Coronation Medal 1975 & Sultan Ahmad Shah Silver Jubilee Medal 1999 Coronation took place the next year he succeded his father, the Coronation Medal exist also in bronze and silver gilt (maybe gold for royal guest). The Silver Jubilee Medal 1999 exist also in gold (gilt). You'll see that they used the same ribbon, just they switched the central stripes. Emmanuel
    23. Here it is : Johor : Sultan Ismael Installation Medal 1960 & Pahang Sultan Abu Bakar Silver Jubilee Medal 1957 The Pahang Silver Jubilee Medal exist also in silver (I saw it on a group). Emmanuel
    24. Hello Jan, it seems from first picture that the patina of the medal doesn't match the patina of the suspension. Could you check. The Medal for 25th Jubilee of Reign is said to be worn from a bicolor ribbon saffroon-orange/red with 2 equal width vertical stripe. I visited the singaporean manufacturer in 2005 and they said me that the Silver Jubilee Medal was not going to be produce (opposite to Service & Meritorious Service Medal which were minted). But maybe a small serie of the 25th Jubilee was produced....Actually the ribbon of your medal seems to be the one of the One Hundred Year of the Monarchy, made by Royal Insignia in Singapore. Royal Insignia broke up with ELM somewhen in the years 2006/2008. I bought some medal from that seller in Bhutan, I will post them shortly next week. Emmanuel
    25. Hello William, If my memory is good, we were suppose to met in Johannesburg the last week of april. We got very friendly email between us at end 2013, early 2014, and then lost contact. I'am in Johannesburg now, hopefully I have others people to see. But you shall have at least drop a small email, even from Juba it works. Or offer an alternative solution. Emmanuel
